Confused about CPU-Z and XMP Memory

Thread Starter
How well is CPU-Z to be trusted? In my BIOS I have supposedly set XMP for my G.Skill 2133Mhz memory to run at 9-11-9-28 at 1.65V (G.Skill recommends this). When I saved the settings and booted back into my BIOS, the "about" screen shows the memory as 2133Mhz. However!

A lot of the tabs in CPU-Z confuse me, especially the ones that list something other than 2133Mhz. Here is the HTML file I exported from CPU-Z.

http://dl.dropbox.com/u/120877/Deathstar.html.html

Is this to be trusted? Am I reading it wrong? Is there another way to see what speed my memory is actually running at?

Those tabs show the "Serial Presence Detect" meaning that those are different default values of those RAM.

If you want to see your memory parameters you have to click to "memory" and multiply the "1157" or something like that x2.

The timmings are supposed to be correct.

Well don't be fooled, as the above post has pointed out, DDR is DOUBLED. Also, with my RAM (similar to yours) i had to make monstrous increases to the VTT values to even get proper target values and correct posting. Im currently running 1.28V and +500mV with high frequency RAM a high VTT is always needed. Also in general XMP profile memory is intended for Extreme line processors... (no worries i did the same) We're only suffering with slightly degraded performance on our memory controllers. Anyway, SB has better memory controller son the CPU than X58 does.. i think you should just try a VTT increase under 500mV increase and see where that takes you.

Well what is a safe value for the VTT? I have read some things that say not to take it over 1.2V. I have tried 1.285V, should I go a bit higher? Above all, I wish to be careful and cautious smile.gif

Why are you increasing the VTT?

Because my G. SKILL 2133Mhz memory 170000 fails a Prime95 an IntelBurnTest. I am trying to get it to a stable point.

With sandy bridge you shouldn't need more than 1.2V (& probably shouldn't need that much).
I can run 2133Mhz memory at 1.14V VTT, but with my board I just can not get it stable, even with higher voltages across the board.
You may need to run 1866Mhz for fully stable. It probably isn't the memory, but the mobo. Maybe ask other extreme4 owners (who have the capable memory) if they can manage 2133Mhz?

i was gonna say eeesh im running 1.45v VTT but its on X58 1366.. and im quite sure 1.45v is about the safe zone for me. @ +500mV EVGA shows values in red and states use of extreme caution, with use of non-traditional cooling... blah blah blah etc..
