SMP Linux woes.... PLEASE HELP LOL

Thread Starter
Hey guys, I know that you are all probably tired of seeing threads here of people asking for help with getting there linux destro working friendly like with FAH. I know I was a bit too. But now I understand why. I thought that my first install of FAH was daunting but that was nothing compared to trying to figure out how to do it in Ubuntu. I recently installed Ubuntu 11.4 and I cannot get my SMP client to work at all. I read all of the guides and they do not work at all. Can someone please try and help me on here somehow. I'm willing to try anything and I am willing to communicate any way that the person trying to help me wants to. Thanks for any help that you can offer. Just so you know where I am in the process. I downloaded the Linux 6.34 client and extracted it to my SMP folder on my desktop. I then tried the terminal commands and it just will not work for me. I am fully updated so I know it's not that.

Try 10.04? I know that was the best and easiest for getting the clients going.
Also you need to post what type of errors or where you are stuck in so others can help.

To reply to your PM before trying 10.04 have you tried the v7 client?
I think its easier to setup but haven't had a chance to try it myself.

Just wait for the Ubuntu users to jump in, since I stopped using it ages ago.

Lol I got this last post after I went back and installed 10.04. I already had a install disk laying around that I had forgotten about so it made it easier. So now I am on 10,04 LTE and I am installing all my updates then I will try the guide again. I will try V7 first though.

OK sorry for the double post but I have an update that really shouldn't be added to my above post. I installed 10.04 and used Zodac's guide to no avail. I got almost all the way to the end but at the part where she says
" Then press CTRL+X, and 'Y' to save changes, then ENTER.

Then use this final command:
Quote:
chmod +x fah "

I did that and my terminal didn't do anything. It basically just moved to the next line. I then went on with the rest of the guide because I didn't know if it was supposed to do anything or not and apparently it was. I clicked on the launcher that she said to make and it opens a terminal for a fraction of a second (in fact the terminal opens and closes so fast that I had to do it a few times to realize that it was even opening for that small amount of time). I am at a loss. I have tried deleting everything and doing it over but you all know Einstein's definition of insanity right? Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. Albert Einstein"... So I decided to concede and come here with my head held high and again ask for help since I apparently failed. I will try one last time to copy my entire terminal so that maybe someone can look through it and see if I did something wrong please. Thanks in advance.

I might add that the second bit of code is actually just a continuation of the first so there is some duplication there. You can notice at the bottom of it where It differs. I did it twice so that maybe you can see where I went wrong. The second one is basically the after step from Zodac's step 4 through to just before making the launcher itself. Any and all help that you may be able to offer is much appreciated. Thanks again in advance and if you have questions to ask please don't be allarmed that I am not answering them right away. I'm heading to bed for now.

I suggest you use the V7 client. The download file is .deb so the Ubuntu Software Center should be able to open it and automatically install F@H.
Much easier because the guide from Zodac didn't work very well for me either...

Just use v7 client w/ Ubuntu 10.04 wink.gif
