Overclocking phenom 965, need advice!

Thread Starter
I have my phenom*4 965@4ghz and my vcore is 1.5v, seems a lil high but if i lower vcore i get "worker stopped" on 1 core at prime95. Dont think theres a workaround except maybe use nvdia core calibration and lower that cores mhz? And after that try lower vcore? Temp is 61c full load doing prime torture for 12 hours.

Well the temp is fine and all seems good, the vcore does seem a bit high though, But every CPU is different and requires different treatment
Sorry I didn't really help XD

Well u helped with your thoughts. I just looked at the phenom club and 1.5vcore isnt that bad if u look at vcores there so i think i will settle with the 4ghz and try focus on memory now and the gpu.

That vcore is a bit high, but not completely unheard of, though I'd be a little worried about the temps because I've heard/read that 62C is the highest recommended temp for Phenom IIs.

What is your CPU-NB voltage set to? You can take the cpu-nb voltage up to 1.5v as well, but this will bring temps up of course. Try playing around with these two voltages to see if you can keep your 4.0GHz OC while lowering temps.

4ghz is pretty good for that processor. For overclocking Phenoms you really have to get the temp low as they loose stability quickly after 60C. I tried to overclock a 955 a while back and no matter what I could do I could not get it stable past 3.8Ghz like there was a wall it could not jump over.

Settings are:

Nb voltage-1.1250

chipset-auto

ht voltage-auto

ht-link:2000

nb frequency-2400

hmm cpu-nb is that "chipset" on my bios?

And well can it do anything increasing that so i can lower vcore? cause if i lower vcore just 1 notch the 3rd core always stops doing prime. At this vcore and all i think my system is stable with 4ghz doing prime 12hours and 61c high temp and 44 idle. A bit high temps but still within what amd recommends? And well i plan on having this cpu maybe 2 years or so so it shouldnt matter? Hmm i think after looking around that the 955 seems easier getting to 4ghz at lower vcore? And my "mosfets" or hmm "vrms" temps are fine. Running on a budget mobo, but still i havent heard anyone having trouble with this cheap mobo. Ahh well, chipset must be the cpu-nb...right? So if i put that one to a couple of notchs higher can that increasement do that i can lower the vcore u think?

If you can hit 4.0 GHz at 1.5v then you have a good chip. I have to run my 955BE from my AMD build at the max 1.55v to stay stable at 4.0 GHz. As long as temps stay well below 62 Celsius, you should be fine.

I've got a 955 and I run 4.0 stable at ~1.4v

temps will play a big part in the voltages needed to achieve overclocks, aswell as the revision of the chip and it really is a lottery as to what you can get from each chip.
my 945 does:
3.6 on stock volts if chilled and does
4.1 on 1.45 volts if chilled,
but wont be stable on air at 4ghz whatever voltage i use

In the AMD 4ghz club here,a guy using a hyper 212 gets 4.5 @1.5v using a c3 revision 965.
It's a Gamble!
