$700 Build Help Me Help A Friend

Thread Starter
Sorry if this is the wrong section.

Got a friend looking to build a computer. His budget is 700-800dollars MAX.

Will be mostly used for light gaming HoN/SC2 and school work

I really was trying to budget him a 2500k build but it was pushing a little over 800 =/.

Also we'd like to order all the parts except the case from one store....shipping to hawaii owns us.

We will be buying the case locally (best buy)

Anyways show me what you guys got! Thanks

What that guy said, except I would drop the CPU down to a 955, you can always overclock it but honestly .3GHz doesn't matter that much when it saves you $30, keep in mind the 955 and 970 are the exact same chip the only difference is binning

looks like a great build, I was actually going to suggest a 460 but it looks like you beat me to it but you can find a nice lifetime waranty EVGA for alot cheaper.

I tweaked your build to fit the budget. The TX650 is more than what you need for the build and the Z68 board doesn't offer much from a P67 unless you have an SSD and want to use the 2500k's onboard video for some reason.

okay i'm stuck between two builds help me decide

the first one is a intel 2500k build with a gtx 460 and 4GB memory

the second one is AMD phenom II x4 965 build with a gtx 560ti and 8GB memory

with coupon codes the AMD build works out to be 10 dollars cheaper.

What would you guys say is the best bang for buck? Also which would be the more "future proof" for lack of a better word and the smarter choice as far as future upgrades are concerned?

I must say though I think I found 2 really good builds within my friends budget of 700-800MAX. My personal opinion would be the 2500k, well because i'm a semi fanboy and from what i've read it out performs the x4. But at the same time I don't know if the upgrade from a 460 to a 560 ti and double the RAM makes up for it?

Help me decide!!!

I would go with the 2500k $701 build I came up with, great bang for your buck.

The GTX 460 SE is enough for gaming on a single monitor.
