MSI says 6950 TFIII unlocks - Page 3

.)it unlocks the shaders

Now some have claimed that after they have performed a flash with the above tool their card achieved better benchmarking results then before but GPU-Z still shows the 6950 amount of shader units instead of 1536.

That could indicate the card´s shaders unlocked btu GPU-Z is just not fit or updated enough to recognize it.

So those people claimed they would do a test to confirm this theory:

The test was benching the card with a synthetic benchmark and normal stock 6950 BIOS.

And then compare bench the card after flashing with the above posted tool in the link.

If the shaders unlocked the scores after the flash should be 5-6% higher than the once with the stock BIOS .
This would confirm the unlock and the fact that GPU-Z does not recognize it.

Of course we have to take a performance fluctuation into consideration also and should not confuse it with the unlock.

I myself am getting my TWFIII CF this week ...I hope somebody with TWFIII can do this test and share their results.
For those that flash the card and don´t see 1536 in GPU-Z.

IT DOES NOT MEAN THE TWFIII DID NOT UNLOCK!

Do the test in the quote and please share.

on my r6950 twin frozr III tried several times flashing the msi obtained file, but still shows as 1408 shaders in gpu-z
(link of quote is broken)

msi afterburner core clock up to 1275 and memory clock up to 1690 available.

strange..

That is because the

.)CCC regulation is removed which enables you to clock higher than the previous cap of 850 MHZ , the same goes for the RAM
.)the BIOS also enables you to raise your voltages higher

Did you read my post?

Only because GPU-Z does not show 1536 shaders does not mean the unlock did not work.

Just do the test:

1.)Run a synthetic benchmark for example Vantage with the 6950 stock BIOS and note the scores.

2.)Then flash your TWFIII with the BIOS provided by MSI or OC Drift and bench again.

3.)Compare the scores of the 6950 Stock BIOS with the scores of the flashed one.
If you have a 5-6% performance increase on the benchmark results of the flashed BIOS over the ones with the stock 6950 BIOS your unlock did work and GPU-Z is just not able to show them yet because there are different read conditions on non ref cards.

I wouldn't be upset. You've got the sure thing. I'm still not buying that the 6950 TFIII will truly unlock. CL3P0 couldn't get it to work on his under any circumstances. I'm waiting for Kung Pow to show us the way on this one once he gets his cards in.

My cards will either arrive today or on monday.
Either way it would be good if we had more results.

Do the test in the quote and share your results.
I will too either today or on monday.
