Is The Witcher 1 worth playing? - Page 8

Looting is next to useless in TW1, you can't carry enough to sell and even if you did, merchants give you stupidly low amounts of money. The only item in the game worth buying is the Excellent Leather Jacket (worth 5000 orens), and pretty much the only way to afford it is by doing quests.

There's only a few things worth looting: alchemy ingredients (potions are your best friend), runes (to craft silver swords), and meteorites (to craft steel swords).

That's not my rig yet. TBA stands for (in this case) To Be Acquired. Right now I'm running an i7 860 2.8 and a 4850M 512MB. The game seems to jitter a lot... more than any game I've ever played before. Jumps from 40-100 depending on what I'm looking at or doing. And, during the cinematic (1440p, medium) at the beginning it was getting ~10 FPS whereas afterwards in the game it was ~20-50.

I can't wait until I get my new rig... she'll run it nicely and TW2 should be OK on medium settings.

Ah I see now. Well you know how its like with games like TW - it uses an old, heavily modified engine, and it is thier first game and whatnot.. Anyway, as for the FPS drop in cutscenes, that's caused by the DOF effect, turn it off and you will get solid fps. I turned it off anyway because I didn't like that effect..

Search for the full combat re-balance mod , it supposedly adds new things to buy from the looks of it.I think ill be using that on my second playthrough.

Ah sweet, will do. Not sure when I'll be playing it again but will keep this in mind.

Here is the features list , if you are interested:http://www.moddb.com/mods/full-combat-rebalance1/features/fcr-features-list

Im surprised that they can cram all these in a mere 67mbs of data though.

Hahaha, I picked up The Witcher 1 today from Gamestop, the enhanced edition, which is $7 cheaper at Gamestop than it is on Steam, and I'm pretty psyched to play it.

I don't get home until tomorrow frown.gif

This is a pretty awesome game. A little difficult to pick it up straight away, but was still enjoyable early on. I've spent 17 hours playing the game so far (34 hours Steam time) and I love it.

Good story. Strangely enough it seems to be running at 1440p now on max (no AA) pretty well, whereas it wasn't before, but I'm not complaining cool.gif

Haha thanks =)

I actually like the combat system, although I'm sure it could be improved. And the skill tree, absolutely love the skill tree.

Hate buying the books. Would rather save for that 5k item, but I need the books... trying to find them though.
