BOINCers Gone Bonkers 7 - June 7th-9th - *over*

Thread Starter
What is this "BOINCers Gone Bonkers"?
Similar to the Foldathons; this is a 48-hour period where everyone fires up every computer they have, and tries to earn as many credits as they possibly can in an effort to boost our team ranking
It's also a great time to take a break from gaming to increase your credits. Plus, it raises awareness for BOINC and distributed computing as a whole. Getting word out is crucial for the long term stability and success of our rising BOINC team, and we hope to get some new long term BOINCers in the process.

My computer is quite old, would it still be worthwhile to participate?
Yes. Unlike Folding@Home, BOINC has many many projects and applications. The eOn project has work units that are very small and usually finish in under 30 minutes on an older 1.9GHz AMD Athlon laptop (as of December 2010). Some projects have large work units, such as Aqua@Home with their multithreaded work units that can easily takes almost 40 hours running on all 4 cores of an Q8200 @ 2.5GHz (as of March 2011). If you need assistance on choosing a project for an older computer, start a new thread or post in this thread and we will help you out in choosing the right projects for you.

When will the event be taking place on?
It begins on June 7th at 12pm Eastern Time and ends on June 9th at 12pm Eastern Time.

How do I take part?
You can use this guide to install the BOINC Project manager, and choose the projects that you would like to crunch units for. You may also use this guide to use BOINC exclusively on your Graphics card(s).
A list of all Projects can be found here, while the best Projects for your CPU or GPU are listed here.
We run a monthly thing called the Projects of The Month where we take the 3 projects that we are not performing well in (in terms of ranking) and attempt to increase our ranking in them. Check that out and consider running those if you are still not sure what to run.
Also remember to join team Overclock.net for each project that you attach to in the BOINC Manager.

As well, if you have won a prize in a previous BOINCers Gone Bonkers event, you are ineligible to win a prize for the next one (ie. if you won a prize in BGB6, you can't win a prize in BGB7).

Got the 1090T running now... 2 more CPU tasks can run at same time now. Didn't like the 4.2GHz OC I put on it right away, so dropped it to 4GHZ until I have time to mess with it.

Seems the 955 chip hit a roadblock at the same speed so I am thinking it's board/HT/NB related... but not going to mess with it for now. (because I have no idea yet how to tweak an AMD!)

SIMAP, Rosetta, SETI, and Aqua are all out of tasks it looks like too...

Yeah, this is why I do not CPU BOINC, the tasks just take SOOOOOOO long, and it is just not worth the fan speed and noise.

I run my 6950's like a champion though. 400k points if I do a full 24hour day, it is like a champion.

i have my fans at 100% on my cpu anyways. So the humming sound I have in my room is always consistant. When the fans get quiet is when I know something's wrong. lol

Well, I'm running a couple Aqua trasks now, trying out the MultiThread CPU... so far it's okay but long. On the 950, it uses 6 CPU's and 5 on the 1090T. 1090T is faster too... to be expected since it isn't hyper threading.

But, the task hog the whole CPU for like 5hrs or so... if you can stand it, you can run those on CPU, but I prefer the CUDA apps of which there are none as of this morning.

8-)

I used to run Aqua a good bit, then my computer started jumping around in cpu usage. I had it set to use 7 threads, 88-90%. But it would go from 55-90 and back and forth. What was really annoying about it is my PWM radiator fans. They would go 1300rpm-2000rpm and back down every 15-20 seconds.

But it does pull decent points for CPU. Will be running it during the BGB.

Cool! Well, so far so good on the 2 test tasks I am running... I also reset it to only give me GPU tasks for now and so far no joy getting one assigned... we will see.

Oh, I do what you do more or less, run only 5 of 6 cores on the 1090T to allow a free core to handle the GPU tasks. Same thing on the 950, only 6 of 8 CPU's allowed for CPU tasks.
