Water cooling idea...

post #1 of 43
Thread Starter
Well, I have an idea regarding water cooling, maybe some one have tried it before but cannot find any threads...

Well, I was thinking of just cooling off the cpu by using a cpu block, a pump, and a large water tank instead of a radiator...

Maybe 50Ltr or maybe a 70Ltr, I guess this will never warm up!

What do you guys think?

Reservoir > Pump > i7> Rerervoir

It depend on the ambient temps whether it would warm up or not and if it did it would take a while.

It's just not very practical. Plus would you use 70Ltrs of coolent or just distilled water?

Haha, dude.. basic physics.. Count how much energy it'll take to heat that water from 20C to 70C, then calculate how long this will take. I guess it's super fun to get to use your computer 1h/day

1hr/day? So you suriously think you heat up 70Ltr water tank from 20Cel to 70Cel in 1 hr?

Please correct me if I'm wrong... So, sets do some calculations...

Tank = 70Ltrs
Temp (20C to 70C) = 50
SHC water = 4200

Q = m x C x (Tf - Ti)
(70000 x 4.2 x 50)
14700000J <- are needed to heat 70Ltrs of water from 20C to 70C

Q=It
Q = 14700000J
I = (P=IV)
T = ?

P/V= I = (300 / 1.4 = 215A)

Q/I= t = (14700000J/215= 68370sec)
68370sec ~ 18hrs......

Open for mistakes... ;p its been a while since I left school...

You could always use the water for showers when it gets hot enough, and then have a self regulating replacement valve for used water...

Might want a good filter!

Your math looks right, but even 18 hours might be kind of dumb, the system will eventually overheat, and if you use the computer for a few hours full load the temperature will slowly creep up.

It will work but you are better off just getting a radiator.
