Deus EX H.R.

Thread Starter
Greetings everyone. I am wanting to buy a new graphics card that will perform well for Deus Ex Human Revolution due out in August.

I would prefer a Nvidia product. Money is not a factor. And I am looking for a single card solution. Should I buy now or will a better card be on the market by the August release date.

Thanks a lot.

What's wrong with GTX 460? I highly doubt the developers are going to spend extra time on the PC version, since it's also going to be released on ps3 and xbox360, and as we all know all too well their hardware is horribly outdated. You should have no trouble at all running the new Deus Ex on a 460. Not to mention that you have a 1680x1050 monitor.

nielsbohr: Thanks for the reply. I was thinking that my current setup is adequate but I want to max out the settings for maximum eye candy but if you think I am good to go then I will just wait and see.

Your other remarks about about the focus on PS3 and XBox I sense that you are implying it will not be optimized for PCs. If true that is depressing.

Yeah, it might be. Developers nowadays are notorious for poor ports, be it lousy controls, inadequate settings menu or poor engine optimization. I suppose you should just wait and see how it turns out.

You could always get a GTX 560 Ti (they OC very well) or go all out for a GTX 580, But if you are gaming at 1680 x 1050, you won't need max horsepower...it would just be more of a future proofing solution.

My system does list the 22" Viewsonic. But we also have other systems. The wife is using a HP 24" @ 1920-1200. And although I have not tried it out we also have 42" 1080p Sony Bravia in the guest bedroom sitting idle for the most part.

If I chose to game with the Bravia how much horsepower would I need?

DEHR is a rather poor looking game to begin with. you have no need to upgrade in order to play it at a max.

i suggest you save your money.

The game is being designed around what a console can handle. That automatically costs the game in terms of gameplay and graphics, along with level design. Absolutely no reason to upgrade for what is a console port.

I haven't been following much for Deus Ex, but I'll assume that it's going to be a rather mid-to-high end scale game. Assuming that you will either upgrade your monitor, use your TV or steal your wife's (why does she have a better monitor than you anyways??), you'll be gaming at 1920x1080/1200 and you are probably due for some form of upgrade.

The cheapest and quickest solution might be just to go SLI with the 460. They scale pretty darn well and are a great solution for the price. You said you're looking for single card solutions and that money is no object, however.

That said, I'd recommend the GTX 580. If you wanted to purchase right now, I'd recommend going with a brand that provides a custom/aftermarket cooler as well, such as the MSI Lightning or the Gigabyte Windforce or the Asus DirectCU II (though this model takes up 3 slots as opposed to 2, so you need be wary). They sit around $500 normally and would be your best bet for cost, silence and low heat.

If you're just waiting for Human Revolution, I'd wait. A couple months is a good timeframe to wait for price drops, and you may also see some releases of the 3GB model for the 580. Personally, I'm looking to upgrade as well to a single card as well and I want to future proof my upgrade as much as possible. A lot of people will say that you don't need 3GB of VRAM right now and that may be true for most games, but 2 years down the road when I still hope to be using the card that may not be the case. For the extra $50 or so (I hope that's all the extra VRAM will cost) it's a good investment for the future if it gives a few extra months.

Apparently MSI has a 3GB Lightning model announced, but I can't speak for tentative release dates. I'm holding out for a 3GB Gigabyte model, though. But that's just me.

Because shes a good (cough) cook.

Thanks to everyone for the thoughtful advice. I was addicted to the original Deus Ex. Yes, the AI was weak but still my personal favorite ever. Am really hoping Human Revolution rocks but some of the comments here have really dampened my expectations. Just have to wait and see, I guess.

the graphics arent the important part of DEHR.

Early previews have been reasonably positive about the gameplay.

I Doubt it will has as good of a story as the witcher 2, or have anywhere close to the same amount of nonlinearity. Being a corporate Dev studio, they have play testers telling them how the game should be played, and Its aiming to the mass market crowd, which i doubt have the mental capacity to handle an adult game that actually rewards thinking.

Thats just my opinion, thats not based much on fact. I'll be buying it, but i dont have any hopes that it will be as good as DE1. I imagine it will be a fairly good throwaway title.
