GTX 470 Brutal Idle Temp ? - Page 2

Yeah at 85C in a case with good airflow and 22C ambient that'd be a reasonable temp for folding 24/7, not idling

Fill out your sig rig and we can help a little more. All of these lads are spot on. Thermal paste from the factory is poor. You are about 20/30c above normal idol, and this could be airflow related.

You mentioned warranty earlier, I would go that route if possible.

lol, from 607 to 825mhz, that's by no means a 'small' overclock. the 470s do run pretty hot, mine ran at stock and idled at 40, peaked to about 85 in games, all with auto fan. clocked it to 700 at 1v for a while, and idle temp stayed in the low 40s, in games it went up to 95, again with auto fan. set a custom fan profile and it never went above 75 in games at 700mhz. but that's still a 125mhz away from you overclock, that said, yours idle at 85 seems a little on the warm side...u have decent airflow in your case?

EDIT: you said you have nfs in the background, then that's not idle temps then, lol, if in games it reaches 85, with your overclock, i'd say its pretty good on air!

EDIT2: plus you have a dozen taps opened in chrome which utilises gpu as well, so again, i think your temp looks more than fine...

Yes it's possible. Thx for advice.

The temp will stay high if the card does not Down Clock correctly.

Also check the Nvidia Driver that the basic driver setting is NOT set at Maximum Performance power setting. Should be set to Adaptive so the system can downclock easily with the card.

ditto.. 470 on air is unbearable in the summer...not even oc mine did 95-100 gaming. NEVER over 40c with a w.block.
