If I had neither and was buying, I'd prefer the 460 over the 285 personally if they're the same price. For one thing it'll use less power and hence save money and put off less heat (although 285's do have the exhausting cooler, which could mitigate the heat a bit). But also I believe that Fermi shaders are a bit more powerful clock-per-clock, and the 460 has more of them.

If I HAD a 285 and didn't care about wasting money, I'd just use it though. Honestly though, given the dearth of physX titles, I would hard-pressed to justify spending more than like $50 on one ...

Well, I get 300 or so with gaming time counted in from mining, so it shouldn't push my budget. Power is free for military.
