Help recommend a 700$ laptop

Thread Starter
So my friend is looking to buy a laptop and we just can't settle on a good one. I don't really know whats a good brand to get for around that price.

Basically it needs to have long battery life, have a 11-14 inch screen and be able to play up to 1080p MKV files and such. The budget is around 600-700$ and shipped to canada so he will be using sites like NCIX, newegg.ca and such.

So far we have the Vostro 3550 with a 2.10ghz core i3-2310M but it doesn't seam to have hdmi out, which would be useful.

So what else is out there that would be good for this price range?

The ASUS K42 is pretty nice deal. If your friend is okay getting a Pentium dual-core, those buggars are on steep discounts. You can find a Pentium Dual-Core 2.13GHz, 4GB 1333 DDR3, and 1366x768 for around $400.

Really, everything other people can find, I'm sure you guys can find as well. Oh, just found a nice deal. 3GB but it can play MKV's. I do want to say, using a laptop for that price range, best you can get is probably 1600x900.
