8800GTS as PhysX

8800GT 512MB
or
8800GTS 512MB

And would either one suffice for a PhysX card?

GTS is faster (112 vs 128 cores).

Yes, either will work great as a physX card. I mean, if you were coupling it with Tri-SLI 580's you'd probably want something better, but anything less than that ... either one will suffice.

I'm using 8800GT with my SLI 470's, and it definitely works better than running physX on one of the two 470's in the SLI set.

There's a guy on Craigslist selling an 8800GTS cheap. I'm asking him which version (320, 640, 512). If it's the 512 I'll probably go for it.

I'm thinking of upgrading to an HD6950 2GB and the 8800GTS.

if its a G80 ask him if its 96 or 112 the 112 cards are good cards

This is what he's got:

Is it worth it for PhysX? And if so how much should I offer him? (Remember, Craigslist, so I might be able to do a tad lower than the OCN standard)

Meh ... you could probably find a used 96-shader 9600GSO for really cheap, and it'd be a lot cooler/quieter/smaller ... w/same or better physX perf ...

Matter of fact, I have an extra one myself if you're interested shoot me a PM bud ... just got a free 8800GT so that's my new card for this purpose.

Actually, I have an OEM 9600GS with a shot fan. That's faster than the GSO, right? Hm, wonder if it's possible to fix it...

How many shaders, and at what clock are the core/shaders?

Mine is the 96-shader, 550MHz core (I think), 512MB DDR3 on 128-bit bus version of the GSO (there's like 5 different configs of this card).

I'm using a 320MB 8800GTS and it does fine. Depending on how cheap he's selling it, and how badly you want a PhysX card, I say go for it.
