Yet another "will this power my GTX580?" question - Page 2

I think it would be more helpful if you give us maybe a price range that you are lookling to stay within as far as a PSU. Personally I love my XFX 750W 80+silver PSU. Its handles all my hardware and my 12 fans in push pull on my rads as well as my MCP-655 pump. as well as holding a 4.6Ghz OC on my CPU 24/7 and my GTX460 (soon to be replaced by CFX 6950s)

Also, I have NO plans what so ever to ever purchase a second card.

But I'll add to my shoppinglist a new PSU in the near future.
Thanks y'all!

Also, should I get a Corsair or Antec? Any specific recommendations just for me before I go checking other recommendations? (also: what's the different between Corsair AX, HX and TX etc?)

what's your budget and any future plans of expanding your system like adding more gpus etc etc

lol @ these threads. I ran an ASUS GTX 580 on a corsair HX520 watt for MONTHS. This is with a Q6600 overclocked to 3.6ghz and all the other usual goodies. I know this is probably asking for trouble but none the less I did not experience any issues. As long as you dont overclock your card you will be under 400 watts under load in normal gaming situations. (total system wattage)

My budget is pretty much anything up to 250$ (could go higher, but would prefer not to).
And as I said earlier, I have no plans, what so ever, to go SLI.
I had SLI'd GTX460s and I did not enjoy it (as for some reason everything performs the same with one GTX460 as it would with two and the only difference if that my whole system becomes spicy(hot)).
I will, however, want to overclock the GPU, aswell as my already OC'd CPU and RAMs.

In increasing order of quality and price:

Antec Neo Eco 620W - $70
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817371031

Corsair TX650 V2 - $90 ($80 after rebate)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817139020

Sentey Golden Steel Power 650W - $112.50 after promo code
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817322009

Kingwin Lazer Platinum 550W - $150
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817121080

Neo Eco is Seasonic S12II platform, but based on an earlier version, with a bit cheaper capacitors than the retail S12II. TX V2 is Seasonic xxx-AT. Sentey Golden Steel should be Super Flower Golden Green. Kingwin Lazer Platinum is Super Flower Golden King.

On a side note, the HX520 is certainly better than the Xion Powerreal units, so that's not really too relevant to this discussion. Also, an overclocked Bloomfield i7 uses more power than an overclocked Q6600, though not incredibly more.

Realistically, you'll only ever need above 500W when running something like LinX + Furmark. Before you ask, the Kingwin LZP 550W is explicitly advertised as being a 650W unit (just sold at 550W to meet 80 plus platinum) and it was tested to have that capability.

Okay, I'm probably going to buy the XFX 750W or 650W PSU.
But, as the grand finale, I still remain unsure; will I be able to run the card - and overclock it a bit on my current PSU, or should I refrain from purchasing the card until I have a better PSU?

And once again, thanks a lot, you're all really helpful.

You need to fill in your system specs so people can see what you are dealing with, You would be safe on a 500w PSU with most single GPU cards and high end processors if you are not overclocking.

That is done. But as I stated - I want to overclock, that's like 50% of the fun from having a PC (will it work? ooo it did, reduce voltage, what will happen? oh my, BSOD, could be better...).
