Router Activity Light Constantly Blinking

Thread Starter
Something weird just recently began to happen the other night. When nothing is connected to the internet in my house the internet activity light constantly blinks like it is transferring data. Both internet lights on the modem and router blink. They used to sit idle when nobody was using them. Its not the WLAN light so nobody is connecting wirelessly. I don't know why or what data is being transferred with no computers connected to the network.

Alot of routers actually still do this even when nothing is connected. Well mine does anyways. And that's without a single LAN cord plugged in and wireless disabled.

It could have something to do with a computer still having WOl (Wake On Lan) enabled and maybe the router thinks it needs to wake it up. That's pretty damn outthere and farfeteched though. (Excuse the spelling). I would try a firmware update on the router and see what happens. Other then that I'm really not to sure. Even though it's not the WLAN light blinking, just make sure you know who's connected in the router page and make sure it's only your devices.

What you mean nothing is connected? Windows updates?

Your router's WAN light will blink even if all your PCs are turned off. Your router periodically communicates with your ISP. Your router is constantly sending info to your ISP all the time as well as requesting it.
