Silent homeserver - hardware - Page 2

more than powerful enough for minecraft & any website I would even think of hosting at home.

I still don't think you'll get silence with multiple F3s in there though. How much storage do you want total?

I'm gonna start with 1TB and increase when needed. You think I should get a SSD for OS and server and a WD Green for storage?

Probably getting a set of 8GB Corsair XMS3 instead of the 4GB Corsair XMS3. The motherboard supports up to 16GB, but only got 2 slots.

unless you're going to be running LOTS of VMs, go with a Scorpio Black or similar instead - much quieter than desktop drives, but almost as fast.

Any 'green' would do - personally I like the F4EG drives, but there's little difference overall.

So maybe a small SSD for OS and a http://www.komplett.no/k/ki.aspx?sku=610757#extra for storage?

IMO:

SSDs are expensive, RAM is cheap.
Unless you want to host an entreprise level database you do not need an SSD. Buy a small HDD and use the rest on the maximum RAM you can put on the MB. Then with something like virtual box run a VM of Linux ( MineOS+, google it, for example ) to run Minecraft on a RAMdisk : ****loads faster than the fastest SSD and with a lot of RAM you will not lag.

$100 buys you a decent 60GB SSD, or about 8GB of RAM. Don't quite follow the logic...

OS boots up, create a RAMDisk, transfer Minecraft files from HDD to RAM, and then load from RAMDisk?

OS boots up and load Minecraft from SSD would be faster.
Once again...
