It's a qualitative vs. quantitative thing. Technically your chip is always degrading to some measurable degree while it is operating, but when operating within intel's specs it will take decades before that impacts the chip's overall performance. From a practical point of view, that might as well mean it doesn't happen at all.

Is it possible to just ask Intel since they designed the chip and I'm sure during testing phase they would know the max potential of the chip, minimum potential, degradation period, and other findings through their testing. They must have a realistic simulator for overclocking and stress testing the chips they produce right?

Have you made any kind of investigation or search for data from testing already done? Second,do you think you can conduct such a test and maintain standards that will not subject your conclusions to skepticisim due to the testing procedures being tainted in some way, why do you think you could do this? To put it in easy to understand words,shadetree cpu testing will simply lead to bickering.

I'd say go for nutella as thermal paste on the stock heatsink, underclock the cpu to 2.0ghz and crank the voltage to 1.6

That should kill it pretty fast.

1.55v+ paired with 1.65v of RAM and run IBT (all maximum, 8 threads(not auto)) for a week. I bet you it won't past that week, you will have a dead cpu.

Or for a short trip .... 3 seconds in microwave.

Asus has said that the PLL overvoltage function in their BIOSes allow getting high OCs out of D2 - D3 retail chips that won't post with a 45-46 multi. Using PLL overvoltage with, say 1.4 vcore able them to post at 48 or more but Asus labs reported that they experienced degradation of chip performance in the long term on some samples.

Remember, your chip might get degraded by something another sample would hold easily.

Actually, I wouldn't be surprised if neither of those worked. (assuming 1.55V rather than 1.55+ which could be anything)

An i3 550 supposedly survived 10 seconds in a microwave.
