use IBT because it rapes Sandy good now that she can do the AVX instructions

IBT it is!

It'd be hilarious if it would require 1.7+ for 3.4GHz at the end of all of this!

How come some are getting their chips degraded when running 1.5 then?
Obviously it DOES something.

And if takes too long, I will just increase the voltage. But starting at 1.5V on stock speeds are OK.

It's HEAT vs VCORE.

Not 3.4Ghz@2.0 Volts and 150C@all cores. That's not gonna help out one bit (Sort of a joke, hah hah)

How are you going to quantify "degradation" though? Lesser ability to overclock? Instabilities at stock settings? Fried CPU?

Another thing to consider is that motherboard (and motherboard quality) and how it's run can a big effect on overclocks, CPU stabilities, etc., and not just the CPU.

So how will you quantify degradation, and how much is enough to make a decision either way?

No, NOT IBT.
Do you guys know how IBT works?

It adjusts the load in various steps. Remember IBT wasn't originally designed for the end user. It was designed for intel internal QA testing and binning. IBT adjusts load from 25% to 100% to allow the processor to cool down and heat up in different stages.

The best tool is prime 95, small FFT if you want to blow up a CPUs internal cache and cores. Nothing else is better. Even Blend isn't as good as small FFT It doesn't get as hot as AVX extensions, but it maintains sustained heat load better.

degradation=lese ability to overclock.
problem is, it won't affect your ability to run at stock even if you abuse the chips at 1.6v....

and now I adjust. Prime is it!

Well. If degrades from high voltage (running cool) then vcore kills it.
Running hot with low vcore, then its because of temps.
I sure will notice what makes the biggest impact.

The board itself is good. It has a vcore limit of 1.72V. But I wont touch that, probably.
No worries though. I'd say 2 weeks of severe punish will bring some results

Good night for now

xroo, I forgot, someone at Intel said to not exceed 1.5v on the memory if you're going to go above 1.5 vcore, or you risk damaging the IMC. Post was a few weeks ago by someone who was talking to Intel about voltages and stuff.

So try to use 1.75v on the memory while putting 1.7v into the CPU. And then run Prime. That should work her out quite nicely

my 2600k has noticeable degradation after 2-3 month of folding at 1.49v
