VID is a voltage selected from a table of what voltages the* CPU should use at a selected frequency, that voltage then drops when the processor is under Load (vDroop), so the CPU is only running at a percentage of the actual VID during times at which it is actually working...

*Each VID table is calibrated specifically for the individual CPU, therefore CPU's arent always capable of running the same multiplier at the same voltage, even when everything is set on auto..

Unfortunately, we went through the last FOUR years thinking that VID and VCORE were the same thing. I even thought they were the same thing. Love how that now perfectly explains how my QX9650 could degrade at 1.365v load, when everyone said that is the max VID, so keep the voltage at that limit and you're fine. And no one ever noticed that VID didn't account for lack of loadline calibration until now. And even worse, the loadline (aka vdroop) slope and tables are right on the specifications chart for everyone to read! (never mind that you need a degree in EE to be able to understand it...)

Intel knew exactly what they were doing with this. The old Pentium 4' Northwoods were the first chips that would degrade--sometimes VERY quickly, by exceeding the max VID, and that was WITHOUT any vdroop mods (as there was no LLC options in BIOS during those days). Newer chips were more resistant to that horrible leakage...(core 2 and onward).

I see more IMC's degrading than the actual CPU cores.A degraded IMC can also affect your CPU's stable clocks.For that reason a high RAM voltage is key.Also the amount of RAM you are trying to overclock can stress it even more,so trying to push 8GB's at a high speed will stress more than 4GB's etc.

16 VS 4GB made a big diff when I ran 5.7 (4c/8t) with h20.
1.72V is the highest I can go, sorry no 2.0 ;P

The idea is NOT to kill the chip. Just degrade is very severly.
Although the goal is to find the fastest killer. Its vcore VD heat.

Just ordered 16mm barbs. It should be enough for high vcore and low heat. Its masterkleer barbs so no idea well the do versus others. Will borrow an inhouse AC so air pushed on the rads should be 16C at lowest.

Anyhow, chip will arrive tomorrow

Shove more than 1.4 volts down the chip and have it run IBT or prime95... instant degrade! Oh and make sure you are using the stock cooler with no thermal grease in the middle of the sahara. You wanted a degraded proc?

Jokes aside, extreme heat and voltage. Also unstable current.
