Stock 2600K HSF cooler

Thread Starter
Helloo,
So, I've bought a 2600K, P67-UD5 and 16GB of G.Skill RAM.
Keep in mind absolutely everything is stock (no overclocking/overvolting)
At my first try, I installed the 2600K and everything fine, with the stock cooler and stock thermal paste, but CoreTemp/RealTemp reported absurdly high temperatures (~55 at desktop).
So, I took the cooler off, cleaned it and the CPU and installed it once again, but with AS5; then I decided to run Linpack on OCCT to see the temps.
OBS: I didn't give AS5 the full curing time.
It goes over 80*C on Linpack. I obviously cancelled the test when it got to that temperature. It's now about 45*C idle.

Is the stock cooler this *******, did I install it incorrectly or is my CPU broken?

EDIT: seems like these temps are normal: http://www.overclock.net/intel-cpus/...nning-hot.html
WHY THE **** does Intel provide these chips with coolers if they cannot properly cool this thing when it's stock, and these chips are especially made for overclocking?

Seems like I'll have to buy socket adapters for my TRUE while I wait to buy a nice watercooling system .

Thanks...

I got about 35 idle when I did a really good cooler install but it's back at about 40 now... Its a POC but 2600 is rated for like 80load so....

I'm idling at 30 with my eco.
Your temps should be around 35-40 at idle.
I guess it's fine, but not the best tbh.

yes the stock cooler is crap, what kind of temps did you expect after running a stress test?

Stock cooler is only good if you don't use a stress tester. Obviously you could try letting the TIM cure then you should get slighlty better, but my advise is, dont do anymore stress testing until you get yourself an aftermarket cooler

The stock cooler is just for looks. And IF you decide to run it. Well in that case you got balls. And people should respect you for the huge amount of bravery it requires to run a CPU with ANYTHING stock in cooling way Intel has included for you.. Just saying

P.S. The TIM, is it even really TIM? It looks like a concrete.. It DOES NOT even spread like it should. I'd say that stock cooler is a weapon, if you throw it at someone really hard..

Yea stock cooler is fine i am getting 30 at idle first but when i run a prime test goes to 60- 70 which i think its acceptable. I have the same settings as you but different results :}

Oh I forgot to mention I used my own thermal paste (arctic silver) along with the stock fans thermal paste.

I was just testing to see how hot it would get, I'll either hurry to get a watercooling system or buy adapters for my old TRUE.

I'm also using AS5, I just haven't waited for it to cure

Overall, I'm extremely disappointed with this cooler. I was actually expecting this... http://images.anandtech.com/reviews/...w/_DSC7051.jpg
