Reseated heatsink with IC Diamond...and my temps went up

Previously I got about 85c at 100% fan speed and now it hits 90c at 100% fan speed at the same clocks.

This is pretty disappointing.

Any idea what could have gone wrong?

I taped a video of myself remounting the heatsink and applying TIM, I'll get it uploaded as soon as I can.

The thing with IC diamond is it needs to be under a fair amount of pressure in order to cure at the correct speed.

Basically, I did my H50 up as tight as it could go without putting extreme pressure on turning the screws.

It does still have a curing time though.

My heatsink is already in as much as it will go. Even if it has curing time, these are still pretty disappointing temps for a first run.
90c at 100% fan speed? Even the stock TIM (the application was crap btw) yielded better results..

I'd also like to include that both my GPUs are running at the same time, and that they are sandwhiched together. So my GPU is essentially pulling in hot air coming from GPU2's PCB. My ambient is 30c right now.

Dude, it's new thermal paste, mine took a few days to settle, I've got around 75c on full load now. What method did you use to apply the paste?

I used the rice grain method, but I added a size slightly larger than a rice grain.

Currently uploading the video, you'll see what I did.

Sounds good,

The thermal paste on the H50 is shin etsu. It's pretty epic paste TBH. Also the amount they use is just about right.

But yeah, lets have a look at the vid and see whats going on

I would clean it off and try it again.

The recommended methodology for the diamond is to put roughly a 5mm pea sized dump right smack in the center of the CPU.

After that, let it sit there for about 10 minutes without seating the heatsink so that the solvents can evaporate.

Finally, place the heatsink on top of the CPU and squish/spread without lifting the heatsink.

Hope that helps.

I will probably end up reseating again. But I'm also gonna buy a new heatsink because this is just pissing me off.

The video is going to take too long to upload so here's a screenshot of how much TIM I applied

Yeah, that looks about right. It's more than what's typical for other TIMs but since the Diamond is so thick, the site recommends using a bit more than average.

Your temps are really surprising though. I just bought a small tube of this Diamond stuff to replace my Arctic Silver compound. Won't have it in for a few more days, but I'm hoping your results were just something off.

GL pal.
