Reseated heatsink with IC Diamond...and my temps went up - Page 3

Lol, I like how you labeled the screws on the paper, "pcb screw" etc.

What I like to do that may or may not help is let the card go through 2-3 heating cycles and then when the card has completely cooled down to room temp, give the screws a HE-MAN screw down. Let the screws and mounts heat up and expand and then when it comes back down to room temp, they should give a wee bit more screw down. But don't go for the HE-MAN screw up front. Unscrew it an 8th turn to loosen it up and then go for it to have some leverage and speed. You should get a bit more gains.

Also, I don't think you put enough tim. I would double the amount you put down (or at least 1.5). Depending on the amount of pressure the cooler applies, it might not have spread out to the edges.

I wouldn't use diamond on an exposed die, eventually the abrasiveness will scar the die.

Also IMO it looks like you used too much, but I'm comparing my mx-3 application.

Speaking of mx-3, these are my loads on a 75a draw, 25°c ambient, VF3000A at about 70% speed.

Attachment 212702

You guys that say he didn't use enough.
Really, he used so much it oozed over the edges of the die.

Sounds like an air bubble got trapped, you might need another application. You do need to continue to tighten the screws as it will not tighten down all the way at first, I tightened them every day when I came home from school before turning on my computer for a few days.

Alright...so did I apply too much, enough, or not enough...I've received about 5 different responses.

So here is what I'll do, once my GPU-only water block comes in.

Remove heatsink.
Apply a smaller amount of TIM.
Apply block.
Screw in backplate screws 1/2 way.
Wait a little while, screw it down all the way.
Wait 24 hours, screw it down more.

I've used this stuff before and you're drowning the GPU in it. Clean it off as clean as possible, use arcticlean multiple times and then apply a rice grain amount of paste the GPU die, then clamp down the heatsink right after. Don't leave it because dust will get into the paste onto the GPU die which is bad.
