Intel 310 series or sata III?

Hey all-

I have the chance to jump into the SSD waters with a smokin deal on a 160GB Intel 310 SSD. As you can see in my rig, I currently RAID 2xWD Raptors. I like the size (600GB) of the RAID setup, and the speed is a very noticeable increase from a normal 7200rpm drive.

However, I would like to jump into SSDs. I am able to get my hands on a 310 series (sata II) SSD on the cheap, but I am wondering if I should just wait it out and just invest in sata III 6GB/s technology? I notice benchmarks weighing the sata III as noticeably better in numbers. Either way will be an upgrade for me though.

tl,dr: Buy sata II SSD on the cheap, or wait and save for sata III tech?

SATAIII SSD's are already here, they will set you back about 320AU and about 290US. The new series also do 550/500 or the OCZ one's do. The one your looking at will do 285/220 I think. Massive difference. Also the new ones are becoming SATAIII ready and the numbers are there to support it. But SATAII will still be more then enough for a 3 second OS boot time.

Thanks for the input. I can get the 310 series 160GB from Intel for $210 brand new, or just save a bit more and drop it into SATAIII. All tech will be outdated sooner than we want, but I think that SATAIII could be worth it judging by the read/write speed differences...

Yeh, but your mobo doesn't have native Intel SATA 6Gb/s port. So you won't get any increase in speed if you connect 6Gb/s SSD to SATA 3Gb/s port.

Don't use Marvell controller ever (6Gb/s port on your Asus Sabertooth X58).
