Yes. But companies like Sprint that you take your warranty through won't turn you away for rooting. If you fubar your phone to the point of it being physically inaccessable, they will replace it with your deductable. Once you get into the rooting process and installing custom backups, make sure you make the correct backup of your wimax keys and a nandroid back up.

Also, never pull a battery while rooting or flashing.

There are ways to unroot your phone, learn them.
