Most PCI-E or PCI sound cards (obviously PCI) use the smaller PCI-E 1x slots on most fairly new motherboards. PCI-E stands for Peripheral Component Interconnect Express, which means any audio/video components will work. Even though using a standard PCI-E, in a x16 slot would be pretty pointless.
