I'm looking to replace my 5770. My budget is 300-400. I was hoping to do eyefinity in the future. I want good performance in dx11 would should I go with 1 6970 now or get 1 6950 and maybe unlock it then get 1 more later and crossfire.

It's really up to you, but I'd go for the 6970 so I wouldn't have to deal with unlocking.

But if that's no problem for you, then go straight for the 6950 that you'll unlock and crossfire later It'd be a better deal IMHO.

Go with the fastest single card you can afford now and then have the option for Xfire later. The unlock isn't a sure thing. I would go for the 6970 lightning in your case...

Do you have any experience with non reference coolers?

I recently had the same dilemma and bought a 6950 2gb, I'll just add a 6970 later when I Eyefinity.

This is a bad benchmark but this is all I got

3dmark06: @4ghz,AA2,1920x1080, First 3 tests:
11681 (5770)
19378 (6950)

Curious to see some real ones especially on cinebench or 3dmark11, Spct.
