Serial ATA/600 HD on Mobo with SATA 300

Thread Starter
I'm planning on buying a 2tb Serial ATA/600 Hard Drive but my motherboard only supports Serial ATA/300. Will I be able to use the hard drive?

I'm only using it to store movies, photos, etc. Seeing that the future of motherboards will start to support SATA 600, I thought I might as well get a Drive that's already SATA 600 instead of a 300 one so that when I do update my mobo, my hard drive won't be lagging.

The drive internals cannot saturate the SATA II (3 Gb/s) interface never mind the SATA II (6Gb/s) one, so i would buy the SATA II variant of the drive and save a few pennies.

However if you do still but the SATA III drive against my recommendation then yes it will still work as it is backward compatible.
