How can i run a game on two monitors? - Page 3

For gaming yeah, but for everything else it's pretty good. Writing a paper and researching, moving files around on your computer, editing an ini file while reading a guide to that .ini file, or pretty much anytime you want to have a piece of reference material open while doing some task, or maybe you need to google something while writing a forum post, or sort out which mods you actually want to install from a million and fifty three tabs opened. Even with gaming the second monitor is handy; I can pull up hwmon, EVGA precision, and the task manager and have all my hardware stats on the second monitor while I play on the first.

EVE online can have the UI configured in such a way as to take up both monitors without having things awkwardly split by the bezels, and as I said before any game in the supreme commander series will display the battlefield on both monitors, allowing you to pan and zoom each independently, and control units from either. You can build your base while raiding, without having to switch between the 2 locations. It really should be a standard feature for RTSes...

OP, run the second monitor, but don't think of it as an extension of your first.

You can play BC2 on two monitors, and you can have the crosshair on one of them.

Downside: You can only play on servers that aren't Punkbuster protected. Singleplayer does great though. Don't even consider playing VAC secured games with the method I will describe:

1. You need SoftTH, best compared to a Tripleheadtogo, but without the box, and it only works with DirectX 9. Get it here: kegetys.net/forum/index.php?topic=2123.0
2. Go to the BFBC2 folder in My Documents. settings.ini contains a 'DxVersion'-setting, replace whatever number is there with a 9.
3. You need to put the d3d9.dll from the package you downloaded in the BC2 install folder.
4. Run BC2, wait, it'll probably mess around a bit, haven't tried in a long time.
5. Set the resolution to 2880x900.
6. Exit game. Open the SoftTH settings file;
For Vista/7, navigate to: C:\\Users\\(YourName)\\AppData\\Local\\VirtualStor e
Open program files, find the config.softthconfig file.
In this file change renderResolution and forceResolution to: 4320x900
Set smoothing to 0,
set zClear to 1 or prepare for lag.
7. Run the game. Your crosshair will be on the right monitor. If you want it on the left one, change the config.softthconfig under the head_primary and head_1 headers. Self explanatory, hopefully.

I do recommend accidently finding a third monitor and a second GPU- can be PCI or PCI-e 4x, or 1x.

Peaces!
Rob.

WARNING: SoftTH is _Very_ likely to get you VAC banned. Valve doesn't confirm it, neither does the creator of, but it's a d3d hook and ever since MW2, VAC got nitpicky.

actually your all kinda wrong and right , basically nvidia can nativly run a 3d program on 2 monitors but only under windows XP

for somereason under vista and 7 the ability to span vertically and horizontally nativly was removed, yet its allowed with 3 or more for what reason i do not know

so in short if you want to span horizontally on two monitors using an nvidia card use windows xp

Umm, I have 4 monitors and two video cards. I can set it up to run single monitor SLI or 3 monitor surround or 2 monitors acting like one large monitor. It's all in how you set it up and the latest 270 series nvidia drivers are much improved, but still not 100%.

And yes, you have to deal with the bezels... but you can set it up for 2 or 3 monitors with the latest software... I've done it. Problem is, to force it to work, I have to unplug the one oddball 22" monitor... it's better with 275 drivers though and getting better each release. Soon I hope not to have to unplug anything.
