2500k or 2600k for gaming and SLI - Page 3

The I7s have extra cache also and you never know when you might need hyperthreading.
For a gaming rig, hyperthreading is pretty much useless. If you plan on doing media editing it would make sense, but otherwise it's just a waste or money. The 2600k is not worth 50% more than a 2500k.

the 2600 are probably cut more from the center of silicon wafer, heart of silicon is best part of wafer.

2600k seems to clock 100 -200 mhz more at same voltage compared to 2500k.

All that said, not even gta 4 and shogun 2 make my 2500k sweat. For gaming, a 2500k should be sufficient.
GTA 4 is the first game I'm playing today. Just finished the build this morning, I want to see how good this cpu is. GTA 4 ran like crap on my Phenom II 920 @ 3.72.

i have a 2600k, even at stock speeds it doesnt bottleneck my crossfire 5850's. so im sure a 2500k with 560's and 570's will be more than enough.

i should have saved the $100 bucks and went with the 2500k and used the money for something else, just like others have already said.

GTA is LITERALLY one of the worst coded games ever created.

A great comparison is Crysis. That game maxed out my Q8400 @ 3.3 GHz and my i5 @ 4.9 GHz never goes above 25% usage. Now I can use Fraps to my heart's desire

Anything on the gamebryo engine (Fallout 3, oblivion, etc) and EVE online back in the day are other examples from that category

I had a 2500K a month ago and I agree it ran much cooler and needed less volts for 5.3ghz. That said, if you enjoy benchmarks the 2600K will perform better at same clock speed. The extra cache helps.

I am loving the 2500k as well. And for some reason I am consitently running lower temps than my friemd with almost the Identical build but with the 2600k. We wonder if it's the hyperthreaded activated doing it. But nonetheless They both perform so well.
