That does not mean that we will see it this or next year. PS3 has around 10year lifespan
ps2 came out 5 years after ps1.
ps3 came out 6 years after ps2.

A ten year life span means that it will be sold and supported for 10 years, not a new console every 10 years.

what do u guys xpect in ps4?
Full keyboard/mouse support. Android(or something akin to it) as a bootable operating environment. Enhanced marketplace/psn.
2GB system/video RAM(possibly 4GB but less likely)
Fermi based GPU, Power based CPU, but not cell.

marketed as a computer replacement + home theater system + gaming console.

haha thats a nice dream, but not what to expect.

isnt android one of the easiest OS/firmware things or whatever it is to hack and load homebrew? Sony wont allow that unfortunately.

i personally rekon the PS4 is going to be an upgrade of the PS3 (obviously) but i mean they will use the same parts, just upgraded versions. if they go Fermi hopefully they will be able to combat the heat they produce, although most modern cards are hot now.

and personally marketing it as a PC replacement wouldnt work, imo anyway coz all its gonna lead to is a high price tag, and then people are just gonna go "well i can get a PC for this much that does that much so why get a PS4"

for me, i rekon they need to start heading back into the gaming world more. these consoles are trying to market themselves for so much more, maybe its time to simplify it again? given todays customer base i doubt that would be smart, but would be nice

I wouldn't bet on Sony, but that's about the approach Nintendo's always had. Heck, their last two consoles haven't even had DVD playback because they didn't think it was necessary. Whether you like the type of gaming they've catered to lately, you can't deny that they are exclusively a gaming company.

I imagine Sony to continue their push to make the PlayStation brand the center of folks' living rooms, and that means media options.

I'm not sure what Microsoft will focus on though. I'd guess that every console will be bundled with Kinect. I wonder if Sony will try to integrate Move into the PS4 more?

Interesting but I'm gonna wait for Gran Turismo 6 before I give up my ps3.

I always see people getting confused with this. Read it, people.

Incremental improvements, nothing more. The type of changes we saw from PS1 to PS2, i.e. more power; not like PS2 to PS3, e.g. new disc format, motion sensitive controller, etc.

And a realistic launch price. No more of thiat $600 crap.

This.

Incorrect, that's not how business works.

They will release the PS4 when the market timing is right, i.e. balancing when it is actually "ready", when they think it will generate the biggest "splash", and when they think they "must" release it to avoid being so late to the party that they lose market share, like last time around.

And then the PS2 and PS3 will both be retired when they are no longer manking Sony more money than justifies the manufacture and sale of the product. I wouldn't be surprised if the margin on a PS2 is still greater than a PS3, given the maturity of the platform and the cheaper components involved. This seems silly, but I believe there is a chance that the PS2 could actually outlive the PS3.
