Actually, That's what I would have said to Microsoft. The PS3 was a good design to start with, It was stable and powerful. The Xbox on the other hand, well, RROD fiasco etc

It's not a planned bottleneck like it seems you are talking about. The bottleneck is the fact that rather then optimizing a game for one set of hardware like devs can do on consoles. PC devs have to use an API like dx which while it allows support for nearly every possible hardware configuration your games have to communicate through the API to the hardware and the same back rather then directly between the two like consoles.

What type of hardware configurations are you talking about exactly? Just strictly GPU? Or CPU + GPU + RAM + PSU + Mobo? In other words everything?

And if it's just the GPU that the code needs to be optimized for (since the PS3 uses a 7800GTX) wouldn't it be wise for developers to optimize their code for all GPU's combination to get the most FPS out of them? Or is that far too much work?

(Something tells me it's a bit more complicated then that since the way games are made for consoles is alot different from PC)

Wrong. Windows/OS and PC software in general has always been the reason PC performance has always been gimped, because Windows has a hundred different type of crap idling in the background and isn't coded to allow software to gain low-level access to available hardware that consoles get (since Microsoft makes "one-size-fits-all" operating systems). Consoles don't need to run drivers and a bloated OS (the OS for consoles uses a few megabytes of RAM, Windows 7 uses a gigabyte of RAM by default).

I use my PS3 primarily for Blu-Ray and only as a backup in-case my PC breaks down and for a couple of console-only games like Marvel VS. Capcom 3, Tiger Woods Golf, and Final Fantasy.

As long as I can play the next Final Fantasy and the price isn't too high, I'm just gonna buy it. But my PC comes first.

I used to be a Nintendo fanboy...but after Final Fantasy VII and Metal Gear Solid and Resident Evil 2...I lost touch.

I don't see the point in getting an X-Box when you have a PC. So many of Microsoft's games are ported over anyway.

I was a console gamer for years and only got into PC gaming later. Once you go there....you never can go back.

Can't really see PS3 backwards compatibility with the PS4 since the masterkeys themselves for the PS3 were found, so some smart Japanese hacker would have a ball hacking it xD

In all seriousness, I imagine it being released in 2013/2014. Any sooner wouldn't make sense tbh. they want to make a huge profit from their current selling platforms and like to keep at least a generation behind selling well too, so they'll probably wait for the PS2 to stop selling like some guy above me said.

Yikes. I cannot believe that there is still this misperception that the Xbox library is nothing but an overlap of PC titles, but the PS3 is not. I did an analysis that disproved that years ago. It's somewhere on OCN...which I had saved a link.

Here I give it a go, I think the ps4 will have about a $800+ starting price tag. It will have 4gb of ram. It would be matched in speed to a HD6970. It will play 3d blu rays, and have a multi home theatre hardware.
They will be ready for release at end of next year (Christmas sales).
I think they are waiting for a market break in prices before the 28nm gpu's come out, and the I.B gets underway..
