I'd bet a pancake that Microsoft would license them Dx11. I'd also bet another pancake that Sony wouldn't be interested anyways.

I disagree. Not only is that about as likely to happen as pigs flying or MS getting Blu-ray in their next Xbox, but the problems with coding for their console has nothing to do with Open GL, but rather the embedded version they decided to implement.

As for multi-media device, no thanks. Cut back on the unnecessary crap: Blu-ray video playback, web browser etc, cut down on licensing costs for this, make this reflect with a lower retail pricing and just sell us a games console, that's what people pay for. Everyone has a netbook/smart phone/PC/external cheap players nowadays for "multimedia" anyway, no point packing in a gazillion useless functions for which everyone will have to pay extra. If I want a Blu-ray player/home theater system I'll buy one separately.

Even if either of the two could launch their new consoles around the same time as Project Cafe, I doubt they would for fear of prematurely cannibalizing Xbox 360 and PS3 sales. PS3 in particular still has a stellar lineup going into mid-2012.

I imagine price drops at E3 for both, after which they'll enjoy a surge in sales for the next year or so before they unveil their new systems at E3 2012.
That's true. Another reason is probably Sony and MS can't afford to bring out a new console early. PS3 was sold at a loss for quite sometime, I think it was only early 2009 where they could break even, MS probably lost a lot of money replacing all the RROD Xbox360. So both companies are trying to squeeze more life out of their consoles.

marketed as a computer replacement + home theater system + gaming console.
hmm, I was thinking:
*8 core arm cpu(maybe with a PPE core for ps3 compatibility...)
*custom gf114, with its own gig of ram
*4gigs of system ram.

Anyone who thinks that PS4 or even the next Xbox will have top of the line hardware for that time is wrong.
There is too much loss in that, furthermore; hardware reached the point where its cheap and much more powerful than the current consoles.

Hell, all i think they will do is add more VRAM and RAM, and maybe tweak the processor by adding more cores along with a GPU that supports the latest OpenGL, and on power lever of a 6870, so 1080p with 2x AA would be easily doable.

High end hardware in this gen is highly unrealistic. They're businessmen, not idiots.

So Sony is preparing their next product... big deal, wanna fight about it? : )
This isn't news.... it's stating the obvious.

You stupid, bro. PS lasted (support, manufacturing, etc) 12 years, PS2 is still supported and made (11 years later).

They have to be able to differentiate next gen consoles from the previous some way or another. For the Wii, it's easy. For Sony and MS, not so much imo.

In any event, no chance I'll be supporting Sony in the future.

good!
maybe with better consoles with better graphics we can reap the benefits of console ports having AA and higher textures (i hope)
cant wait.
but SONY really should FIX PSN FIRST.
