ATi HD Radeon 5670 - Power Requirements?

Hi all,

I am thinking of purchasing an upgrade for my current graphics card.
The card I want is a Radeon 5670 as I know it will work with all of my games on a high setting.

I am also going to purchase a Corsair CX500 PSU but I am unsure if the graphics card is too much for the 12V rail on the PSU and if so, I will need help looking for a card that is ok with my PSU but close to the 5670 in performance.

I will post what Corsair says about max wattage and amps for the PSU, I will also post what ATi says about power requirements and I will post my system specs.
Yes, I usually can work all this out myself but for some reason today, I cannot get my head around it.

Corsair (max per rail):
  • +3.3V - 25A, 130W (combined with +5V)

    +5V - 20A, 130W (combined with +3.3V)

    +12V - 34A, 408W

    -12V - 0.8A, 9.6W

    +5Vsb - 3A, 15W
500 Watts @ 30°C ambient temperature

ATi (recommended power for Radeon 5670):
400 Watt or greater power supply recommended.

My system specs (including proposed Radeon 5670 card)
  • AMD Athlon II X4 @3.0GhZ each
  • 2GB RAM
  • ATi HD Radeon 5670
  • 1 SATA HDD

So yea, thats all I can give really. I used the Power Supply calculator from http://www.extreme.outervision.com/p...ulatorlite.jsp and it says I need a recommended PSU wattage of 400W (and that is with all other components) but I'm not sure if that is idle or with high load on the graphics card.

Can anyone shed some light and tell me if I can get this card with the CX500 PSU?

Any help is appreciated.

A 500W psu will be fine, Corsair is a good brand too.

However, if want headroom for CF or anything maybe a 650 or 750.
