Trying to OC, Newbie, Plz Help a girl out :)

I am really new to all this and was really hoping one of you guys could help me out a little

I bought a 2nd hand unit and was hoping to overclock it to a safe (4-4.5) speed.... specs are below ...
Intel Core-i7-2600K, ASRock P67-Pro B3 Full ATX, 16Gb PC1600 Dual Chennel (4 x 4gb), ATI Radeon HD6870 1Gb DDR5 PCIe2.

Anyways i cant seem to find any info on oc settings with this particular board ?

And also i was playing a little and soon as i run a Prime 95 Stress test on the stock setup the computer stops and switch's off after 30 secs

After this i tried to play in the settings and i changed multiplier to 45 and CPU V to 1.270 and it just crashed instantly on reboot... Anyways i chaged back to stock...

Plz help me guys! point me in the right direction

cpu vcore of 1.27vcore is really low for 4.5ghz. You can try 1.28vcore or there abouts for 44 multiplier that has worked for me for the few weeks i've had my 2600k, I have gone higher but keep in mind only 50% of 2600k chips OC higher than 4.4-4.5. 4.4 is a great overclock too. There probably won't be any specific overclocking threads for your motherboard. For vcore remember to never push it beyond 1.52v that is the safe limit, I'd not push it beyond 1.45v though.

Here is a great overview:
http://www.clunk.org.uk/forums/overc...beginners.html

http://hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1578110
Is good as well despite being geared towards asus boards it's similar.

You didn't mention temperatures make sure you monitor temperatures with Real Temp http://www.techpowerup.com/realtemp/

or Core temp http://www.alcpu.com/CoreTemp/ especially if you're using the stock heatsink. You'll want to keep it below 75c which should be doable to 4.4-4.5ghz on the stock heatsink. After that vcore has to be increased exponentially and your chip will get pretty hot.

Sounds like an instability issue to me?
Try defaulting the bios maybe?

I think you need to get it stable at stock, before you tty any overclocking. Does it freeze, shutdown or bsod? How are you monitoring temps?

Thanks for the quick replies its nice that people want to help Thatnku for the tips on the VCore.... When i run the stress test stock its just like i am switching the power point off then back on... Really weird everything stays on bar the tower switches on then back off..... Didnt really think i would be having this problem on a stock setup I have not tried to set bios back to default cause i had not changed anything

1 TDP TDC limit remove
2 disable LLC
3 1.35v for 4.5g, then reduce to your min stable voltage

How much did that rig run you?

Also, turning off automatically is typically a power related issue or overheating. Obviously your not overheating, so it's probably a power related issue.

I think everyone here has done a good job on giving you advice so I will leave it to them.

So when heavy load is applied it just shuts off?

Can you list the PSU make, model, watts and +12v amps?

If you aren't BSODing, and it just shuts off, it's either auto shutting down due to temps, but you said they don't get above 50, or your PSU can't handle the load. More info please.
