Do you have aftermarket cooling?

Way to unsubtly inform this bastion of male nerdiness that you're a female. You can (usually) get plenty of good advice without playing the sex card, FYI.

Like others said above, most probably your PSU is not able to drag the load of current, hence shutting down abruptly.

Also try stock settings in the BIOS first and then see how the PSU handles the load.

For further help, PSU information is required.

I would also go to the store and get some new thermal paste(Artic Silver) and 91% rubbing alcohol and clean everything off. Then re-seat the cooler on the cpu with about half a pea size thermal paste right on the middle. Press. Then see what temps your getting. You never know what someone else has done.

I just realized something. How many posts do you think were made because of the basis that she is a girl.

Thread Starter
I really appreciate all the help! I am new to this and everyone is being really helpful smile.gif and btw I am not after any special treatment being a girl, that was never my intention... Those that think that can carry on doing so. Umm to answer question my psu is a aywun 650w psu. At least that's what is says on receipt... I am a little worried I have been sold a dud. And to answer earlier question it set me back about 500aud

a.. what.. aywun? I know it hurts now but that sounds like a shady/low quality power supply. It's very likely your power supply. As much as it hurts I think you'll have to get a better quality power supply for around a $100. XFX, Corsair, Seasonic are good names.

Welcome to OCN!

You should fill out this page, so everyone can see what kind of components you are running. That'll help people trying to help you.

http://www.overclock.net/specs.php?do=addsystem

and here are two really informative guides to overclocking an i7 2600k

http://www.overclock.net/intel-general/910467-ultimate-sandy-bridge-oc-guide-p67a.html

http://hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1578110

but if you you dont have the attention span to read a 20 page guide you can just follow this easy guide, its for a 955 but itll work with your i7.

http://blogs.amd.com/play/2009/04/22/overclocking-101-with-the-amd-phenom-ii-x4-955-black-edition-processor/

For a stress test I recommend prime 95 for atleast 3 hours and hwmonitor to check your temps
