Weekly Update - Friday May 27, 2011 - Page 2

This is an open forum. We all try to be polite. But tell me something, you say "So I would suggest being careful when you say one project is "better" than another since it's all point of view and what you find important."

Who the heck cares what I think about a project and exactly "why" do I have to be careful? Is the BOINC police going to banish me for saying Cancer research is "BETTER" than PrimGrid? IT IS! WGC is better than PrimeGrid! ANYTHING is better than PrimeGrid!
SETI is great! I want to find life in the outer galaxies!

And Einstein is "NOT" exactly the same as PrimeGrid!! PERIOD!! Thats like saying "All the bodies in the universe are exactly the same in the grand scheme of things" and is not a basis for an argument or debate!! LOL!

So there! BOINC POLICE bring it on!!!!!! LMAO!!!!

I don't need to be careful about any OPINION or my personal feelings about any PROJECT so long as I am polite and not pointing fingers at people or calling people names or ""telling others what to do or how to think"" or telling them to "BE CAREFUL" for crying out loud!!! Good grief!!!!

LOL!

Be careful, as in: you'll make yourself look silly. Kind of like you just did in your post.
But if you can tell me how milkyway@home (not Einstein, but whatever easy mistake) has contributed to the lives of the average person more so than primegrid, I'd really like to hear it.
Silly tex all you need is the littlest bit of rope and you hang yourself constantly. You must have a 10 foot neck.

Now, there you go again. YOU started it. You can't say what you mean the first time and have to "clarify" what you said once someone takes exception with your controlling ways.

"Be careful, as in: you'll make yourself look silly. Kind of like you just did in your post."

You back off, regroup, then attack me!!!

Some folks like silly and WHO THE HELL ARE YOU TO JUDGE ANYTHING!!!! WHO MADE YOU the JUDGE of silly, not silly, and WHO made you responsible for pointing out what you perceive as other peoples faults?

STOP JUDGING AND TELLING PEOPLE HOW TO THINK AND HOW TO TALK AND HOW TO BEHAVE and WHEN TO BE CAREFUL according to your GLORIOUS ideas of self perfection!

LOL!

I don't want you to think I didn't read the rest of your post, it's just that I am ignoring you now and your petty attempts to create a useless argument to sidetrack the main point... and yes, Milkyway, Eeinstein, it don't matter!!! But again you jump to the conclusion that I didn't say exactly what I meant to say! LOL! I simply did a parody of YOUR statement! LOL!

Also, I love to add non-sequeturs into things sometimes to lighten up things, a form of humour... like stating something about Fords in a Chevy discussion which it seems you missed... I'm a happy and sometimes silly sort of dude!! LOL!

MAIN POINT: You attacked Amor when she made a perfectly fine post that neither invited or requested anything confrontational. Perhaps you don't even realize it. Your reply was fine in "MY" book until you added that last line. THAT is when you became the controlling judgemental person and stepped on Amor's toes for NO REASON!!!

So what you JUST SAID right now to Amor is "Be careful or you'll make yourself look silly." YOU JUST SAID THAT TO AMOR! WOW!! What a way to try to shut down a person!! Some folks might tell you to .... off or Go To .... for something like that! (see above about judging what's silly and about saying what we think about projects!!!!)

Obviously I was right to take exception with your statement "So I would suggest being careful when you say one project is "better" than another since it's all point of view and what you find important." And my reply was equally fine pointing out the uselessness of "being careful" about saying what I thought of projects! Who cares!!! (unless of course Llama is in charge of Censorship!!!)

And you never answered my question about the BOINC POLICE!!! And you never said why we all have to be careful other than in YOUR opinion we could make ourselves look silly! Is that it? You fear for us being silly? LMAO!!!

I was talking about freedom of choice to run whatever project people wanted to. I don't judge (OK... well maybe I do a bit). Then I mentioned something about scientific relevance. IMO Prime numbers do have scientific relevance but projects like Milky Way, GPUGrid, SETI, etc. probably have more relevance and "immediate" (relatively) applications (ie. mapping the Milky Way, making new drugs to fight diseases, finding other life, etc.) over some extremely large prime that for now would only be viable for crypto applications like RSA.

Amor,

I agree 100% with what you say. I will also defend folks rights 100% to voice their thoughts free from abusive retorts and rejoinders!!! I spent 6 years in the armed forces doing just that (2.5 years in SEA)!!!

A mathematician may have an opinion and so may we all; all are probably valid in some context from some perspective. However, like you pointed out, the relevance to the masses may or may not be apparent or real or physical.

And like you said Amor, "freedom of choice to run whatever project people wanted to" is what it's all about.

I would add "Expressing our personal tastes and reasons without fear of being pounced upon by the BOINC Police" is also what it's all about!

I find your posts very succinct and germane! Keep up the good work!

Right, and I was just saying that in the grand scheme of things mapping the milky way and finding primes are about the same as far as what those things will do to help us all in our daily lives. The irony is that my whole point was don't judge other peoples choices (regardless of how I was misinterpreted by those of us with a 3rd grade reading capability.) I read your post here shortly after seeing the one in the scvette thread where your first line was something like "it's all primegrid work, but I won't judge." Why include that statement if you weren't trying to take away from the accomplishment, you know? And there as well as here you mentioned that you thought things like SETI were "better" than primegrid. My only point is that if that's your opinion, awesome but people here are so down on others who do primegrid or anything not noble in their eyes and if you point that out you get attacked and called judgmental.

There you go again... Suffice it to say, all the pie charts out there for my stuff are pretty much dominated by the relatively "little" PrimeGrid I run for the sake of the team.

NEVER EVER has ANYONE been DOWN on ANY PERSON WHATSOEVER if they run PrimeGrid and I challenge you to show ONE POST where any participant has been put down because of it!!

"MY" (and others) sole complaint is the mismatched points awarded for the SAME WORK as regards PrimeGrid!! It skews the pie charts and line charts and the whole concept of "World Points".

Because the WORLD and TEAM Total points by project are so mismatched, one is FORCED to compete by running PrimeGrid!!!! Is that fair to the BOINC community at large? Personally, I could care less, but there is a fun and competitive aspect to being a team member and therefore I run some of it.

So, Mr. can't help but judge others and call them names, provide proof of your statement where anyone has put down another member running PG!!! I have only seen folks down on PG itself for the reasons mentioned, not ever down on folks who run it! I RUN IT!!! I hate it, but I run it for the TEAMs sake!

And again, what is noble in my eyes or anybody else's eyes means nothing! WHO CARES!!! NOBODY CARES what I run nor my opinions regarding same!!! It's a pure information exchange!!! Folks talking!!!

So, since you entirely avoid the previous questions, why are you even bothering Amor about it? WHO is down on people that run primegrid? NAME A NAME! Attach a link if you can! Amor is CLEARLY not down on anyone and has sad so many times yet you ignore it! But you still nit pic and nag and are never satisfied making unfounded statements.

Gosh, and when you are done NOT finding anything to back up your statements, please tell us all who made YOU the BOINC police person!

Sheesh! Let it go!
