So I need to type "su root" before command?

No, at the start when u first get in type su root. It will ask for the root password, login with it. Then do everything as you were doing before, su basically means (login with xxx account) and root is basically the equivalent of the highest level Administrator in windows.

That's because after you type su root, ~/ points to /root instead of your home directory. /root/Desktop most likely doesn't even exist (you probably got an error stating that). You'll need to use an explicit path: cd /home/username/Desktop

No luck there. cd/home/username/Desktop is not valid path
