GTX 560ti TF3 vs non ref 6950 1gb

Thread Starter
I'm looking at this 560 ti and this 6950 1gb

At first I was convinced that the 6950 1gb was the better card for me. After looking at some more reviews it seems that when both at stock and when overclocked the 560 ti is much better in BC2 than the 6950 oc'd/stock.

Review here.. their graphs are the worst... and I'm assuming the TF3 would clock close to the Hawk.

Anyone have experience with either in bc2 or any reccomendations about with model of either the 6950 or 560ti to get?

The card I buy would be sold for a 28nm gpu (along with a new rig) before BF3.

For the same price as the TFIII/hawk you can get the 2GB model.

I think nvidia gpus do slightly better on bc2 for some reason, and it'd be a good idea to look at some other games that you play and see if the 6950 would be the overall better choice. If the 560ti is dominant in bc2 and that's the main/only game you really play, or if its better or within 8ish frames of the 6950 in other games, the 560ti would be a fine card too.

maybe but it would be non-ref so no unlocking and the extra 2gb would do nothing for me.

Thanks.. I'm still not sure what I'm going to get lol.. I've never had this much trouble deciding on a video card before.

Back 1.5 months ago when when I joined these forums because I was upgrading from a 9600GT and I was behind in GPU tech I studied the benchmarks for the 560 Ti and the 6950. The 6950 was obviously favored, but, I prefer Nvidia's driver vs AMD/ATI's Catalyst.

Also, I was going to get the MSI GTX 560 Ti TFII/OC as it was obviously an amazing choice but the Hawk came out 3 days before I obtained the money so the choice was obvious and I jumped all over the Hawk.

Good thing you realized this, the 2gb simply wouldn't be used unless you were playing above 1080p or using 2 displays at a mid/high resolution.

It comes down to what you want, you simply can't do wrong with either card, Also, realize the benchmarks I released were of reference versions of the ATI/Nvidia cards. Some of the higher-end 560 Ti's can almost reach 570 speeds. I can't comment on the AMD one's as I don't know.

Thanks again, what's the difference between the TFIII and the Hawk besides stock clocks?

Edit: Power phase and memory cooling along with voltage read points.. seems decent. That would be $255+tax fs vs the ref sapphire 6950 2gb for $275 +tax + $20 MIR + $13 shipping and I'd unlock it... lol what to do...

Wrong. 2GB is used by about 15 games now, including STALKER, GTA, DIRT, AVP, Metro, and others. Also, the TFIII is the Hawk.

linky to the thread or the benchies. Also, remember I'm not playing over 1080p.

The TFIII is NOT the Hawk

That's a horribly worded/bland/generic statement. First, your usage of "wrong" seems childish, also, the comment you made is extremely generic. I can possibly see GTA4 using 1.5+ or even near 2GB at 1080p with the highest view distance ect. If you're using 16x AA/16xAnisotropic in some of those it seems plausible they'd need something bigger than a 1GB framebuffer, meaning past it, but, not fully using 2GB.

But, you are correct about Metro, that was my folly. But, he doesn't plan on playing it.

Exaggeration is a pitfall of the mentality of the words people use with which to communicate.

But, i also realize you mentioned the 2GB version simply because we're talking about cards relative to what the OP mentioned, so I understand not mentioning other framebuffer sizes between 1 and 2gb.

Actually, it is. The Hawk is the only 560 Ti version with the TFIII design. The 560 Ti was the last to get it.

Anyways, either card will be great for you, I chose the Hawk for the reasons I explained, you personally won't use a 2GB card, but, at the same time no one can comment on what BF3 will need framebuffer wise at 1920x1080 with any type of settings including AA/Anisotropic.
