But what's the point? You've gone and bought almost all DX glass which won't be usable, albeit in DX mode, on a full frame. What features do you need that your D7000 doesn't offer?

I don't mean to come off as insulting but from what I've seen of your work you need to spend a little more time familiarizing yourself with framing, rule of thirds, and really making the subject pop. Spending $2000+ on a UWA or $2500+ on a D800 isn't going to improve your photography, at the end of the day it's the eye and ability of the photographer.

My suggestion? Get the Tokina 11-16 f/2.8 (Review) for under $700 and just shoot. Forget about the gear. Maybe pick up a couple books on composition that are full of other photographers' work so that you can see what you like and try it.
Hmm. You make a very good point. Since I have a crop body the 14-24mm f2.8 will be equal to 18mm right? So it will be like using my 18-55mm? And if I do end up getting the D800 my Dx lenses will run into similar problems?

If you get a FF like the eventual D800 your DX glass will be useless because the sensor will be too large for the lens' glass.

Your pictures will come out like this. http://www.flickr.com/photos/penmachine/3103757730/

14mm DX can be equated to the viewing angle of a 21mm on a FF or 35mm.

no, the 14-24mm will be like 14mm on the wide side. so it will be 4mm wider then your 18-55 on DX.

if you put your 18-55 on a FX body you will get a bit of black space around the image if you dont set it to DX mode. if you set it to DX mode the camera will crop just the center portion out.

Or, as someone else said, the Tokina 11-16 2.8 IS the best DX ultra wide.
If you're implying that DX lenses don't have a FOV crop, you're totally wrong. Even with the 17-55, 17mm on the D7000 will be the full-frame FOV equivalent of 25.5mm. 17mm is not that wide on APS-C.

Alright thanks all! I'm going to test out all the lens that were recommended in this post at my local store and see which I like most.

This is very wise. It's best to see how a lens behaves for you. Just in case, use your own body - or if you need to use theirs, take your memory cards, that way you can look at the pics afterward. I'd also tend to recommend going once to look and then going back (another day) to buy. That lets the decision sit on you a bit.

My bad, you are right. The 17-55 probably wouldn't be great for him. Just go for the Tokina 11-16 2.8.

So I shouldn't even bother with the Tonkia 11-16 F2.8 anymore? I'm actually going to my local camera store to test the Nikon 14-24 f2.8 Nikon 10-24 f3.5-4.5 Nikon 12-24 f4.0. Any other recommendations?
