Need to build an inexpensive pc

Thread Starter
The computer will primarily be used for school work, internet browsing, hd videos (youtube, netflix, etc.), and some games (sims 3 etc.). This is for a friend with a tight budget.

This is what I have come up with:

Processor: i3 2100 (cpu motherboard combo)

Motherboard: Asus P8H67-M LX (cpu motherboard combo)

^Combo price: $193.98

RAM: Kingston ValueRAM 2GB - $25.99

Hard Drive: Western Digital Caviar Blue 320GB - $39.99

Power Supply: XIGMATEK NRP-PC Series 400watt - $34.95

Case: HEC 6T Series 6T10BB Black Micro ATX Mini Tower - $34.99

Fan: SilenX IXP-64-09 92mm - $9.99

Total: $339.89 (before tax and shipping)
Total: $380.10 (after tax and shipping)

I would like to get it the price down a bit more if possible. I will be ordering the parts on or rite after the 31st

So your friend plans to play the sims 3 on an intel igp...
I'd say do your job, as a friend you should tell him to save a little bit more to have a more decent rig because I don't think it will do the job fine enough.

If you have a microcenter near your location, you might want to consider the amd processor with free mobo combo deals. But then I guess it depends on if you wanna stay with Intel or not.

Might want too consider this cpu

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819116399

It packs the power of an e8500 or a new amd triple core and it's cheap.

CPU : Athlon 2 x2 3.0Ghz
RAM : G.Skill 2x2Gb DDR3 1333Mhz
Motherboard : GIGABYTE GA-M68MT-S2P
GPU : Sapphire 1Gb GDDR3 5670
PSU :XIGMATEK NRP-PC Series ACXTNRP-PC402 400W
HDD : Western Digital Caviar Blue 500 Gb
Case : HEC 6T Series 6T10BB

Subtotal: $344.89

He will now be able to play games and surf the interwebz.

(Not a fan of the PSU and the Case but they should do just fine)

Well the game part is definitely the least important thing, if anything we can just buy a cheap graphics card later on and add it in.

Oo wow, I didn't see that one. I would definitely pick that one over the 2100 for the price.

She is coming from a Compaq SR5000, which has these specs:
CPU: Celeron D 360
Ram: 512MB DDR2 ram
Video: Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 950

So almost anything at this point would be a lot faster, the psu died in her pc and we decided that it is best to get something a bit faster.
