Need a new motherboard

Thread Starter
I would like a motherboard that is good at overclocking my phenom 9500, but would also support the second generation phenoms such as the 1090t.

Here are the specs of my current computer: http://reviews.cnet.com/desktops/ace...-32826082.html

everything is still the same except for the PSU and GPU. I've been told that it is very hard to find a new motherboard alone, as I would need to upgrade other things as well. Is this true?

My advise, wait until bulldozer, regardless if you have the pocket for bulldozer or not, when it comes out, the last generation and all generations before it will fall about 20% in price

Or just get a AM3+ motherboard and a 6/8 core bulldozer

There is this Motherboard :

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Asrock-AMD-Soc...#ht_3282wt_906

This is ok but not good for OVERCLOCKING since it has a 3+1 Phase

But it supports DDR2 and DDR3 and it will take the X6 but this is entirely up to you !

I probably won't have the money/even need a bulldozer CPU, however if I buy a motherboard that supports phenom II's, then I have nothing to lose from buying early.

hmm.... I was looking into this on on Newegg. What do you mean by it not being good at overclocking due to the 3+1 phase? I'm new to overclocking so I don't know much

Well I have been told that a 3+1 Power phase motherboard is not designed for overclocking that far

But If you have a 8+1 Power Phase Motherboard you can overclock without worrying about VRM's

VRM's stand for Voltage Regulator Modules and these supply the CPU with Volts and Regulate them (i think) I also got told that if you raise the Voltage on the CPU the VRM's start to get hot and can catch fire, But I also herd that Asus Motherboards have VRM protection.

That is why you look for a Motherboard with a 8+1 Phase Change because it comes with cooling for your VRM's

Here is a link to help you decide what mobo you want :http://www.overclock.net/amd-motherb...tion-list.html

and here is a picture of what VRM's look like

ITS A SMALL PICTURE BUT IF YOU SEE THE RED RECTANGLE THAT IS WHERE THE VRMS ARE

Mosfets and VRM's need cooling

If you buy that Asrock Motherboard you can later upgrade to DDR3 Ram or an X6 Processor and you probably could put Heatsinks on the VRM's to cooler it down if you are going to overclock

But if you go for a DDR3 Motherboard I reccomend this one :

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...#ht_500wt_1156

It features a 8+1 Phase Change but you will need to upgrade from DDR2 to DDR3 and you will need a AM3 CPU which means saying bye to that Phenom 9500

I don't have enough money to do all that
