Hello all,
I got my laptop in 2008 just before I started college and I have been using it since then up until it failed sometime in 2010 due to the widespread Nvidia thermal issue. I had to go through the hellishly long RMA process to benefit from Dell's warranty, which saw the replacement of the motherboard of the laptop. Dell has promised that the issue would be fixed once encountered and I am pleased that they have honoured the warranty arrangement.

During the system's downtime, I built the rig you see in my sig below, because I game alot and It seemed as though the stress I placed on the laptop may have caused it to die faster than it would have anyway. Recently I read that Dell may not have offered any solutions to the issue beyond replacing your board, WITH THE SAME GPU installed. Meaning this issue WILL come up again.

I am not sure how verifiable this is, but forum chatter has lead me to believe that the revision A2 of the GPU is more prone to experience this issue and there is supposed to be an A3 revision where the problem is fixed. Using Speccy, I noted that my GPU is of the A2 revision. Dell also released a BIOS fix that pushes fan speeds higher to maintain a constant state of system cooling, but this still does not address the inherent shortcomings of the GPU's problematic technology. As I type this message right now, EVGA precision is reporting a GPU temp of 77 degrees, I installed EVGA precision 5 minutes ago, when the initial temp was at 64. I am very worried and I am more inclined to be afraid of this manufacturer.

Can anyone offer any thoughts/advice or proper direction on this issue? What should I do?
