Thread Starter
Hey, today I received my WD Black Caviar 1TB 7200rpm 1002FAEX and I'm installing Windows 7 64bit on my new pc. My motherboard is an ASRock P67 Extreme4 and has the feature to have NCQ or not. I don't know put NCQ or not My pc isn't a server, just a gaming pc.

Can you tell me why I should use NCQ? Some people say that it slows down the HDD for like a normal desktop.

NCQ reorders requests to the HDD to help optimize performance. However, it really only benefits heavy random workloads (not desktops usually) or SSDs.
Once again...

I wouldn't dream of not using NCQ. There is a very small reduction in sequential transfer speed, but if you do any sort of appreciable multitasking, the benefits become blatantly obvious, even in desktop uses.
