what he's saying in the end about installing a dual-gpu card in a 16x is similar to running two separate cards at 8x/8x and so on is not true. dual-gpu cards have an internal pci-e switch that allows pcie 16x comminucation between the two gpus.

I actually found that video to have flaws. He only shows you tests results. For me, running two 6990s on a P55 chipset worked, but it had bandwith issues with the slots. The cards would actually make a chatter noise and throttle back, killing smooth FPS playback. I moved the 6990s over to a X58 mobo, with a lesser CPU OC and my results are higher than on the P55 mobo and my FPS playback is very smooth. In 3DMark11, my graphics score alone went up 2000+ points. Not sure about P67, but I heard it works better than P55 with the same 16x PCIe lanes split. If you use CF, I would say you need to have the slots a the same speed. 16x/4x IMO, is going to have issues, but if the OP's mobo is a P7P55D, its not 16x/4x, it's 8x/8x on the slots in CF.

Keep in mind that the PCI-E slots are version 2.0 in that video, which has double the bandwidth of the earlier 1.1 spec, so an older board with a x8 slot is the same as a x4 PCI-E 2.0 slot.

I'm running on a 16/4 board which becomes 4/4 automatically with crossfire. With a single 5850 my score 3dmark11 score (the default setting) dropped from 4836 in the x16 slot to 4576 in the x4 slot (94.6% of old performance).

With 800/1150mhz core/mem 5850's in crossfire I get a 7372 score (2600K at 4.2ghz), so if someone is running at 8/8 or 16/16 with similar specs can compare with that, would be sweet.

So again, there was a drop but it wasn't too significant even when benchmarking. I'm gunna pick up a second 4890 hopefully within the week and I'll post all my benchmarking/fps findings if you guys are interested.

okay, so in case you guys were interested or for future readers of this thread.

I now have 2 4890's in crossfire on my 16x/4x board, and I'm pretty pleased with the increase for the most part. The only thing I'm still working with is Crysis as it's being weird. But here are some comparisons:

All games ran at 1920x1080 and on the highest settings with at least 4x AA:
Crysis(single)-19-25fps
Crysis(Xfire)-25-30fps(I expected more and will post updates if I figure anything out)

BFBC2(Single)-37-45fps
BFBC2(Xfire)-65-85fps

FarCry2(Single)-30-35fps
FarCry2(Xfire)-55-85fps

3DmarkVantage(single)-P11398
3DmarkVantage(Xfire)-P16353

I would recommend this video over the other one, shows real world performance.

I used to have a Gigabyte mobo (P55-UD3) that did 16/4, kinda hurt benchies like vantage compared to my EVGA P55 SLI which does 8/8. I think the difference in Vantage score was 4000 points...this using 6950s crossfired.
