Lol, like Ive said in the previous thread. Slap some extra PPEs and SPEs on the current cell while upping the clock speed due to smaller manufacturing process.
Slap 1-2GB of GDDR5 VRAM and 4GB of DDR3RAM, since memory is dirt cheap nowdays.
Add a GPU with support for latest OpenGL on power level of 6870 and you got a relatively cheap console that pack a serious punch.

I don't blame them. They spent a ton developing the PS3 and for the first year after its release or so they were not even making a profit off of the PS3.

Well, this time they already have the Blu-ray format sorted out and perfected, so it's one expense less they'll be having - and the drive itself is also cheaper to manufacture now.

The online service will probably be the (now security improved) same, sothe investment has already been made.

And as stated before, they won't probably be using Cell anymore, so they can save on developing costs for everybody.

And with the price of DDR3 so cheap, they will probably also ditch the XDR memory.

If they go with Intel and Nvidia they can build a console like this:
(over the top estimate with some retail priced items)

- Core i5 2400: $189.99 (you won't be overclocking a console, so no need for the 2500k)

- 4 GB of DDR3 1600 RAM: $45.99 (plenty and you won't need more since you don't heavily multitask or have many programs open in a console)

- Nvidia GTX 570 with a 28nm die shrink and 2.5 GB of GDDR5 - around $ 250

- custom made motherboard: around $50

- Blue Ray drive : around $40

- 500 GB HDD: $40

- custom made PSU: $40

- case, controller, packaging, OS: $50

Total: $ 705,98

The original PS3 was sold for $799, so it's not an unrealistic price.

Edit: and since the console won't be here for another year, those prices will be lower, adding to the fact I quoted retail prices for the Core i5, the DDR3, HDD, etc, so the final price will be lower. Probably around $ 599.

Would you buy a console like this ?

Yep, that is what I was going to add to the original post. They will probably get some of those items for less.

No new feautures no one is going to buy it they have to bring new stuff so people buy it I bought ps3 and love it specially blue ray drive and cell processor is very power full but the developers are lazy to invent proper game and use the cell processor advantage look at god of war 3 and uncharted game

the saddest part was they were going to try to build off it w/ a faster higher core cell for ps4 but the cell was abandoned by IBM.

they should just do what MS did for the original XBOX, use PC hardware. it will have better games out of the gate and end up cheaper in the long run.
I remember reading somewhere that the game developers said that PS3 had way more potential than the 360 in terms of how a game could look and be, but, was far more difficult to program a game for the system. I don't remember the link but I know I read it somewhere a while back.

But going back to the PS4, Sony can ONLY be successful with the PS4 if they make it cheap, but powerfull. Ex. Core i5 2400 + GTX560 or HD6870 would make it an excellent combination.

As much as I would welcome a 570 in a console, I don't think it would go well (VRMs blowing up, anyone?).

I think Sony should maybe go with APU's, I think it might be cheaper...I'm unsure how 'powerful' Llano will be, but they could just as well wait for Trinity.
