Because they couldn't possibly add a couple more vrms like asus did on their directcu 570. Plus pretty much all the cards that blew vrms were over volted, at stock voltage they are perfectly fine.

Exactly, and then again, since the console is not due for at least another year, the GPU would be transitioned to 28nm like I said, reducing power requirements and therefore VRM requirements too.

The reason why was because its inherently much more difficult to program a game to use more threads, plus its more work when as compared to common knowledge which I guess would applied to the 360.

But in the end the sony will have to do what it takes to stay equal with Microsoft or it will end up losing the market. Sure, the ps3 may have been a loss in profit but because of it more people are aware of sony which may have affected sales in other depts. so, NOt making a ps4 might cause more harm then they would like to accept.

but thats just my .02

People who want a GTX570 in a console are deluded. Firstly, that would mean massive power consumption issues and furthermore, there isn't any need because TVs are still only1080p at maximum.

The graphics processor in the "PS4" will most likely be something like a HD6850 - something moderately powerful but very efficient. It will most likely be customised though obviously.

So then lets just keep using our computers.

The online service will probably be the (now security improved) same, sothe investment has already been made.

And as stated before, they won't probably be using Cell anymore, so they can save on developing costs for everybody.

And with the price of DDR3 so cheap, they will probably also ditch the XDR memory.

If they go with Intel and Nvidia they can build a console like this:
(over the top estimate with some retail priced items)

- Core i5 2400: $189.99 (you won't be overclocking a console, so no need for the 2500k)

- 4 GB of DDR3 1600 RAM: $45.99 (plenty and you won't need more since you don't heavily multitask or have many programs open in a console)

- Nvidia GTX 570 with a 28nm die shrink and 2.5 GB of GDDR5 - around $ 250

- custom made motherboard: around $50

- Blue Ray drive : around $40

- 500 GB HDD: $40

- custom made PSU: $40

- case, controller, packaging, OS: $50

Total: $ 705,98

The original PS3 was sold for $799, so it's not an unrealistic price.

Edit: and since the console won't be here for another year, those prices will be lower, adding to the fact I quoted retail prices for the Core i5, the DDR3, HDD, etc, so the final price will be lower. Probably around $ 599.

Would you buy a console like this ?
You wish.

Lol @ people thinking 570 i7 ect

Its pretty much a sure thing to be a 4-6core APU maybe with a HD6850 performance

remember how much theses things can be optimised

the biggest thing for devs will be the increased vram size 1GB will be another sure thing.

An inside source tells me Sony is limiting its development of games for the system significantly due to inability to procure capital, which makes me suspect the launch might be really underwhelming, aside from the AAA franchises that the company pours money into.
