this is sony its their way or you get tossed and developers have had time with the cell so things have improved a lot in their understanding of it but they could possibly simplify the instruction set in some way

Crysis 2 yesterday 1920x1200 AAx4 max settings, using 1.4GB vmem on my GTX580 plus 2GB of RAM, and u telling us that 1GB of vmem and GTX460 will be enough in ~2012-2018 with Unreal Engine 4 and and tessellation in every game OMG

They need to develop a better way to develop games. XBOX360 uses Direct X which makes making games for it tons easier than PS3. Sony needs to make it easier to make games for the console = kill cell now.

If your developers can make more games and cheaper/ while still maintaining good/ decent quality you get more game options and more cash flow.

MS has this figured out. It also makes porting games from 360/PC super less complicated.

- as for PS4 Specs.. If you understand what can be accomplished with direct hardware access optimization you would also understand that you dont need a gtx580 in a console to get the computing power to equal the power of a gtx580. This is because you can make more draw calls if you have hardware access.

This article also bashes directX (as it should) but we do need a new "directX" replacement that is superior and allows direct to metal programming, while allowing some ease of use to programmers, and maybe not owned by microsoft.

I don't get why they are bothering with a new platform at all unless they are going to go a completely different route with their coding language. That is one of the big reasons the PS3 was such a failure. The other problem was their network. Xbox Live is a much more accessible and refined interface.

The only benefit of starting fresh would be to incorporate DX11 into the consoles, but that would still take an immense amount of GPU/CPU power and I don't think Sony is going to go that route.

I'm not talking about procesing power but about "vmem" usage which is the same on both PC and consoles, anybody seen Unreal Engine 3+ presentation? this one with ultra high resolution textures and tessellation anybody? in 5 yrs 1GB of vmem in 1920x1080 with AA will be good for tetris.

I did notice some games for 360 looked a bit better vs ps3, but I still think heavy rain looks like one of the best games graphics wise that I have seen and its on ps3.

I was of the school of though that the ps3 had superior (sometimes untapped) video performance vs 360... is that not true?

not entirely the ps3 has much greater render performance vs 360 but i think bout equal on video performance
