Laptop overclocking

Thread Starter
Laptop specs:
CPU: AMD Turion II P540 2.4ghz (K10 / Socket S1 638)
Motherboard: Acer JV51_DN (AMD 785GX chipset)
OS: Windows 7 home 64bit

Trying to find some software that can overclock and work with the above specs. Tried setfsb/clockgen, doesnt support my motherboard. Tried crystalcpuid, doesnt support k10 processors. amd overdrive doesnt work for overclocking laptops.

Using cheap pos laptop cooler (planning on getting new one) and stock thermal compound, and keep my laptop clean.
Running prime95 i hit anywhere from 55-60C (@stock voltage of 1.1375v) depending on the temps in my room. Which really is not that high for laptops, and if i were to overclock i would only use stock voltages (maybe lower) so it wouldnt really increase temp.

I did undervolt my laptop for the time being. I was only able to get it stable at 1.0500v @ normal 2.4ghz clock. It runs 48-52C while running prime95. (used k10stat for undervolt, works better then amd overdrive for k10 processors atleast, as i was able to adjust different Pstates instead of just normal voltage).

Really dont want answers like "laptops cant be overclocked because of heat etc"... and no, its not for trying to play pc games...

I'm guessing it doesn't have a dedicated vcard does it, from nvidia by chance?

I've only had luck overclocking laptops with nvidia gpus frown.gif

You might be able to OC your GPU with RivaTuner. With a simple modification to its config files I was able to get it to unlock the OC options on my Lenovo W500's FireGL V5700 (Radeon 3650). I gave it a 25% boost and stopped there since I don't want to risk toasting the VRM.

I also found out from this that Lenovo gave me 700MHz VRAM when the standard seems to be 500MHz for my GPU smile.gif

Edit: I use TPFanControl, a Thinkpad specific tool, to turn up the fan to 64 out of 7 when I OC the GPU. I recommend that you find a way to adjust your Acer's fan speed before you attempt to OC.

That's probably all you'll be able to OC anyways.
