Budget mechanical keyboard - Page 5

For best and most expensive keyboard, you should get a Filco.

If you want the most for your bucks, a second hand IBM model M or Compaq MX 11800 from Ebay is the safe bet. Maybe a Das with student discount fits too.

I can think of much better, and much more expensive keyboards than the Filco. Some are even more expensive and better than Filcos.

There are also keyboards better than the Filco that cost less, but that's a story for another day.

For under $100 the only ones i know of are the Razer Blackwidow or the Steelseries 6G v2.

SteelSeries

The Razer has some quality control issues though, so keep your receipt.

There are more, those are just the main stream ones and I want nothing to do with either, RMAing multiple times to get a work device doesn't sound fun.

I know, but i still think that the razer is incredibly good value. And most of the problems seem to be limited to the ultimate.

If it's worth anything, my BWU is still in perfect condition. Not one issue at all. No keys hitting one another, a light going out, nothing. Not even a scratch / scuff / ding on the glossy area yet.

Quite frankly, with all the flak Razer gets on these forums, it seems I'm the only one getting Razer products without any issues.

There's also the Unicomps, some DSI Alps boards, and sometimes you can get cheap Cherry G80-3000s with blue switches.

Who knows? I come from a strange school of thought that thinks that keyboards are for typing on. I tend to assess keyboards on that basis.

That said, some of my vintage IBM ones have far more class.
