It's whether you want to pay for the looks. From what I've read, they sound good and are definitely one of Skullcandy's better sounding headphones, but vs. other headphones at the price point, it doesn't sound as good however the looks of the Aviators are quite good and far less tacky than say the Beats or other Skullcandy models. To directly compare them sound quality only, no, they don't beat other headphones at the pricepoint.

ATH-M50 is great for trance/bass-heavy music. I own a pair and can say that it was one of the best purchases I've made this year. I got it for $104 off an authorized dealer on eBay with a "Best Offer". The prices vary a lot though.

If you want them to be portable, check out the AiAiAi TMA-1 or the HD 25-1 II. They're both at $200 so just a LITTLE past your budget.

ultrasone, and the sony MDR-V700 are good recommendations. i hear a lot about them and they seem to be solid cans for your music choice.

i own the Beyer DT 770 pro 80 ohm and would say that they are an AMAZING choice as well. bassssssss.

i cant personally recommend anything besides the dt 770 pro 80s though.

I used to be a DJ, but have retired since 07. I still make the occasional mixes and my trusty MDR-V700 has been with me for many years.

Whoa awesome mix, thanks!

I love my MDR V700's. I use those to spin all the time. But you said you wanted for monitoring as well, have you looked into some Shure's?

I second the DT 770s. Although they are probably out of your price range new, you could definitely find a great pair new for under $200.

The ATH-M50s would be another another cheaper alternative. I own the ATH-M50s and I think they would suit your needs pretty well. The DT 770s would be a better choice all around though.

I have a pair of Sennheiser Hd-380pro and I can only reccemond them. (I listen to a lot of trance too). They are exceptional studio headphones even if maybe while djing, depending on your tastes, they isolate a bit too much.

another recommendation for the DT770's, though i don't have a broad spectrum of other headphones i've compared them to. they are fantastic for anything you want to sound 'fun' (bass-heavy music, movies, games).
